Who sells a FLYWHEEL NUT SOCKET ?
 

Looking for something locally, I somehow lost mine in the move. Does NAPA or Sears carry it ? Anyone got the size ?

Wanting to break the new motor down this weekend but can't find my socket.

Sears is expensive though. There was another cheaper brand, like what Home Depot sells or something. I can't remember the name but it's 1/2 the price. Someone used to sell them on ebay. There is also the choice of the tool from Mazdatrix which is sorta like a socket welded on a long bar.

Well, I have to run by Lowe's this weekend too so I'll check and see if they have them there. I would have ordered one but I need it this weekend.

Yes but Craftsman tools are life time warantee. I would not go cheap on a socket for a nut with 300 foot pound torque. Call me crazy.

Unless you've got a monster impact, you'll also need the adapter. IIRC, 3/4 inch drive down to 1/2".

I broke the square drive head off a 1/2" breaker bar when I tried to take off the bolt the first time. The sears socket is 1" drive so I went with a 1" breaker bar and a LONG pipe extension. BTW the front 19mm bolt was MUCH more of a problem.

Eric, I got one at O'Rileys in collinsville. The salesman even let me bring it back the next day to get all of my money back. :rlaugh: It was expensive though, like $75. :mad: That is why I took it back.

I beleive the manual says to take the 19mm front bolt off first, or at least crack it loose. The 300ft lbs of the large nut is nothing compared to the 19mm nut if it's not first. I had to use a 1" titanium impact gun and a shot of nitrous. Next time, I crack the 199mm bolt before the 2" nut.

Oh yeah, Stanley is not cheap just cheaper. It doesn't matter if Craftsman has lifetime warranty, so what. It doesn't mean they don't break, it means they replace them free. I've had four Craftsman super scissors and now need a fifth but this time i'm asking for a refund.

No need for an impact, some good ol' hill billy muscle and a breaker bar always does the trick :rlaugh:

I was just in sears and thought of this tread! 2 1/8 socket was 27 bucks... not that bad for a lifetime guarantee imho.

Im heading off to Sears! Thats a damn good price...I just called a guy that said he had one at some specialty shop, he wanted like 70 bucks...... Thanks for starting a thread for this :)

Sears is where I bought mine.
What was cool was I had the adapter on the socket, and they scanned the tag on the adapter, so I got the socket for like...$9 or so. Try it, it might work for you too!

i got mine from Sears (Craftsman), cost $28 if i remember correctly. i had to use a 500 ft/lb impact gun to get the nut off. if you think $28 is too expensive for a nut that can handle that, or can be replaced for free if it can't handle it, then call me crazy as well.

Well, I have a certain technique that involves bolting the engine to the wall of my garage while using a 12 foot breaker bar. :Kill1:

I used a 1000lb impact with the sears socket. That socket held up good spinning the nut off with that impact.

tractor supply in topeka ks has them...2 1/8"... $15 ...LIFETIME WARRANTY!
they also have a pick of impacts... one 1/2" drive with 400 ftlbs of torque fe $99, and one 3/4 drive with 1000ftlbs at $180
