Who has had rx7store rebuild their engine ?
 

I know they do amazing work but they are closed right now and I was wondering if anyone can tell me how long it took them ?

i was their all last week.... and talked to jason today.
they were doing a couple of modds for me, oilcooler upgrade ss lines, fuel system upgrade, fuel rails 1000 primarys 1600 secondarys dual fuel pumps, all steel braided lines and getting my new motor running.:jump:

they all own a rotary and def. do a good job. i would have had them do my motor rebuild to but didnt know they offered rebuilds.:rock::score::suitdance

well this is probably the first time i had to make a thread about something in 3rd gen forum.

people need to relax, do you realize by posting " search " in posts wont do anything.

Soon people will use the search function and every thread will have dgeesman saying couldnt you use the search function.

They built my half bridge motor

They also built my half-bridge motor. It made 500whp on pump gas and 562 on C16. Good motor.

only dealing i had with them was not exactly one that would rule in their favor. i could explain but will leave that up to you all, i just don't want a handful of people to start attacking me for saying anything negative about them.

well alright, since it wasn't total gross negligence on their part but something that was overlooked that would cause major headache for the recipient of the engine if it had gone unnoticed.

i had a customer about a 9 months ago who was in a hurry to get a motor put into her FD, since i was booked up she ordered a motor from RX7store and had me install it. just before installing the oil pan i grabbed the oil pump gear and rocked it, i don't even recall why i even bothered to think that something would be an issue with it but i like to go over everything with a fine tooth comb since anything questionable would fall on me having been i was doing the installation.

the gear had excessive play in the gear(not the slight in and out play that is common for the oil pump but i mean rocking action and a good amount of it), i called up RX7 store and asked them if i could pull off the timing cover without voiding their warranty, they said not to touch the timing cover or it would void the warranty and to check it again and he said "that play is normal, i just checked one on a motor we have sitting here". i again emphasized that this was not normal play for the oil pump, hesitantly he said to remove the cover and check the pump. sure enough the oil pump gear nut was loose and beginning to dig into the lock washer, i called him up with what i found and proceeded to fix the pump. i hinted at some sort of reimbursement for time and labor but nothing ever came of it, i wound up charging the customer an additional $100 to repair it(not that i wanted to but it was not my choice to use their motor).

long story short, a simple lack of attention to a common issue(oil pump gears loosen up over time and need to be checked) could have led to a catastrophic engine failure in a short period of time.

i'm sure this was an odd occurrence and not something you see everyday but i hope they are paying closer attention to the simple things from then on out.

i was told by the owner of the car that the engine would be at my shop in a few days(apparently that was what she was told), it wound up being 2 and a half weeks before the motor finally arrived. i am sympathetic of this however since there is only so many engine builders but i did have her car torn down, sitting on my shop the whole time taking up valuable space during that time.

i will keep my comments about the price of their engines to myself though.

I had two motors from them and they both blew up...And so did my friends.

Good eyes, definitely saved the customer one hell of a headache later on down the road.

not a good reason for a motor to blow up unless they were useing everything original and just replacing soft seals. my bet is the car overboosted and popped, ie. it wasn't modded right. if they were stock cars then it could have been faulty installs or electrical/mechanical issues with the cars themselves and not the motors fault.

as for my previous post, you have to take everything with a grain of salt. i have made mistakes but you learn and hopefully fix mistakes in the future, i just hope they took my findings and did something with that info.

When i took the blown up motor apart. I took it to a good shop in cali.. They told me the parts used look like they had a 10000 miles on them... As far as my friends motor the oil seal was bad.. There is to much to say and i don't need to start any sh*t....goodluck

And no, this is not an emotional issue. But taunting me is not going to help this thread.

You blew up another motor? Last time we talked you had a few thousand miles on it and it was running "great". Sorry but used parts make no difference in if a motor blows up or not, which Im assuming was a blown seal. That is all in the tuning or lack of.

Your friend that had the oil problem with one of his engines was an install issue with his mechanic. We rebuilt that for free which we didnt have to do. Nothing was wrong with that engine.

I have had a few customers with our motors that go out, blow them up and then procced to blame us for a bad engine, crap parts etc.. Sorry but that is a poor excuse for customer negligence.

I do remember that problem with the oil pump. To tell you the truth I dont know how that happened because we do go over it, but its possible we didnt check for excessive play on the pump. Is the motor running ok?
