Who has had Intake Air Thermosensor failure?

I am just wondering what your symptoms have been. My ecu is sometimes showing a check engine light and I pulled code 11 (IAT). I know this is a very important sensor and hope that it is causing all my problems.

Here are my symptoms:
intermittent hesitation at ~1950 rpm sometimes super bucking, sometimes nothing.
about 7 mpg

Does this sound like what should happen when it goes bad?

Yup. Mine went bad about a month ago. I replaced it and all is good.

I was wondering if anybody has had any success with any AIT's, other than OEM, that have a faster reaction time...?

Maybe I have faulty one... I'm experiencing the same symptomps as you do. I suspect air or coolant thermosensor (discussed here https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...t=22847&page=1).

I get one error code, tough.

Couple months ago, had code 11 for a while.

Was getting bad gas mileage, and failing emissions(badly). Had an intermittant hesitation early in the RPM's under light throttle(though not as early as 1950?), and wouldn't make good power in the upper RPM's under WOT(almost fealt like it was LOOSING power).

Replaced the air intake thermo sensor, and it passed emissions imedeatly, drove much more smoothly under light and full throtle, and had the power in the upper reaches.

It's like 45 bucks from malloy. It's in an unkind place(under the UIM), but the second time I replaced it(missed a crush washer on the sensor the first time!) took very little time. Of course, my hoses are all new, so no worries on cracking them. Seems like if you are getting the code, just replace it. It'll help, even if it doesn't cure everything.

FWIW, I can also confirm your symtoms. It seems like (and I don't pretend to be able to explain it) if I pull off and idle for 3-4 minutes it will often clear up and I won't get a light again for several days. That's why I still haven't fixed it....figured I'll be putting it up soon for the winter anyway.

Thanks for the replies, it looks like this is my problem. Luckily I only drive about 50 miles a week so the gas milage thing isn't killing me too much.

I tried to order it from Malloy earlier and knew their parts dept closed at 6, so I called at a little after 3 and it was closed. I was like WTF? and then remembered they are eastern I am pacific :). I have to wait until tomorrow to order it.

When my AIT went out, I was seeing occasional negative intake temps on my PFC commander. As a result of the the ECU's programming, the ECU added a ton of fuel across the board to compensate for the perceived low intake temps. My AFR's(Techedge WB) went from 13.6 at idle to 11.3 due to the excessive rich condition.

Ray at Malloy Mazda Fedex'd me a new sensor for $44. Things are all good now:D
