white/blue smoke out when starting engine.
Hi..i am having some problems with my fd. Almost every time i start my car, i see a puff of white/blue(cant really differentiate them) smoke out from the exhaust. I am very worried with the car now, cause is a second-hand engine that i've just put in by an unexperienced garage.
Please..help me..!!! |
White/Blue smoke means oil. It might be your turbos.

It is entirely normal to see a good puff of blue smoke when you start your engine cold. It will usually last 15-30 seconds. There is nothing wrong with this. If the smoke continues for a longer period of time, then it's time to start troubleshooting.

i was told by a buddy of mine that when you first start up on a rotary that oil is actually squirted in to the combust chamber upon start up especially on a cold start so my guess would be it's ok. as long it doesn't persist on long periods of time. and as long as your not adding water in to your system every couple of days then i think your engine is fine. as far as the install a novice can insatll a rotary.

it is perfectly normal...Mine was smoking like hell today until it reached operating temperatures. It was a cold night too and it smelled like exhaust. It burns the oil that was squirted into your chambers

Mine on start up smells very strong (like gas sorta, i dont know what coolant smells like) Do i need to save for a rebuild? The car has 0 boost on the second turbo right now and has 79k on engine and turbos..=(

No what you are smelling is exhaust! It is normal, especially on colder days. Please, for the love of god drive the car without paranoia. The only thing you might want to do is check your hoses since your turbo 2 isn't boosting

the white smoke could be your coolant....that wouldn't be good if it was that you arn't getting a good seal. the blue smoke could be 2 things, 1 it could just be your oil, that's fine fd's burn a little bit of oil espically at start up. another thing it may be is you turbo bearings and seals. that also isn't good it means that you would need new turbos soon
