where should i run my wastegate dump tube ?

where should i run my HKS 50mm wastegate dump tube ?

Any Suggestions... At this time i have the wastegate dumping into the atmosphere but it loud as hell. Is this normal or did I do something wrong.

Yes, you did something wrong----you didn't have the dump tube plumbed back into the downpipe :D. I run a full 4 inch exhaust, so I can deal with some noise, but a vented to atmosphere wastegate does *not* belong on a street car in my opinion.

Of course its normal.. when your wastegate opens its like a 6"-12" long piece of straight exhaust just dumping pressurized exhaust out. If you dont want it so loud you can get it routed back into your exhaust.

thanks gents... I try it out and let you know.

fastcarfreak 02-10-07 09:20 PM

the further down the downpipe you can plumb it, the better...

IRPerformance 02-10-07 09:24 PM

Exactly. Run it right into the downpipe.

Personally, I love the sound my wastegate makes when it opens up. It is vented to the atmosphere. Scares the hell out of people if they've never been in my car. It's just my opinion.

Could I suggest maybe put a muffler of some sort on it? Also, how about a sound clip!

Funny enough i've run the my 50 mm indygate wastegate from innovative open on my first gen and it's not that loud. Now, i have ran my 50 mm HKS wastegate open on my 3rd gen and it sounds like a truck or a honda with a large throttlebody at wide open throttle.

Can some confirm the vacuum routing I'm using a spec 1 greddy controller.

on the stepper motor IN side goes to front of turbo (boost pressure)
on the stepper motor OUT side goes to cap of the wastegate.
on the SIDE of the wastegate goes to the intake manifold (vacuum/boost)
on the greddy controller NIPPLE goes to the vacuum of the intake manifold.

the settings on back of controller have been set to external wastegate.

can some guru advise me if this correct
