Where to lift the engine for tranny install?
 

Just replaced the clutch and im having hella time trying to slide the tranny in, there is always a HUGE gap between the tranny and the engine on the TOP of the engine. Where do i and how do i lift the front of the engine, i know if i had a engine lift it would be easy, but i dont have one. So anyone have any ideas on how i could lift up the front of the engine so that i can get my tranny back in? Had to work right through new years practically, hehe happy new year THanks!

About time you did a clutch!

This might not work on our cars but I've did it on others. Loosen the motor mounts and put a jack with a 2x4 and find a good spot on the front of the motor to jack up. Are you sure you have the tranny the right way?

Use a small jack (the spare tire jack will do) with a piece of wood on it under the front part of the oil pan. Do NOT use excessive force because you don't want to damage the oil pan. The engine should be tilted just a bit on the mounts (you don't have to loosen them if you don't want to usually) until the trans will bolt up.

tried the oil pan, that bent up the pan a bit.... wont try that again, i guess ill take off my udertray to see if i can find a spot on the engine to jack up.... any more thoughts?

I use the oil pan to "tilt" the engine back. The majority of the weight is on the motor mounts, you just need to tilt it rearward.

Try using a wood block the size of the flat part of the oil pan. This keeps the jack from denting up the pan and works well.

Otherwise you can use an engine hoist from above to tilt the engine back.

another hour and half, another failed attempt... I dont know why its not goin up any more. It was a Bi@tch to get that huge thing up that high off the ground. And now that its up that high, i dont want it commin back down at all... but right now, i think i may have to bring it back down. Cuase im doubting my clutch install, but thats soo easy tho how could i have messed up? Right now, the engine is lifted up from the oil pan and the tranny... its hanging by the input shaft BUT its not sliding into the engine completely. When i turn the motor, the input shaft spins but the tranny moves around too, not twisting around like it should around the input shaft but twists around like its circling around soemthing (the whole tranny does). Its not a lot of movement but its noticable. Kinda hard to explain. But ill give it another try tommorw. Any more advice for me in the mean time tho can help. THanks!

get the oem jack and 2 4x4 and jack it up from the bell housing. that way you can adjust the height of the trans to play it in. NEVER do it from the oil pan.;)

Ive done it 5 times and never had to adjust the engine position to get the tranny on! try lifting the tranny from another position with the jack.

We had two jacks on the tranny, to play with leverage and angles, still wouldn't go in. Still had about an inch or so to go, no matter what angle we had it at.

Motor mounts were loosened, still no dice.

which part of the tranny is hitting the tunnel?

GRAB THE DOWNPIPE AND PULL DOWN. That's how I got mine. This is NOT the most recommended way to do this, but it's the way I did it.
