Where to get good quality Vacuum hose?
 

Where can I purchase good quality silicon vacuum hose? How many feet do I need, and diameter, and what place is the cheapest? What place is the best?

Check out Baker. But while you are at it check out hosetechniques.com they have kits in 11 colors for $118.00

I got mine from Hose Tech. I'm putting em this weeked so I'll see how it works then. The kit also comes a hose cutter and enough zip ties (matching color) to do all of them. Not bad at all for $118.

There are only a couple companies that actually manufacute the hoses now days. Purosil went under so basically there is only backer, Thermalflex and Samco.

I like www.thermalflex.com stuff. It is high quality and the color does not fade. They also manufacure prducts for F1 cars, industrial and medical use. They really make good stuff.

Hose Tech is really cheap and fades. You put the two next to each other and it is night and day as far as quality.

Hey guys, anyone use the those metal clips instead of zip ties? I read about that somewhere saying that the zip ties can crack with age. If I can pull it off, I may order everything today and work on the car this weekend.

vacuum hose......VITON, anyone?
 

You know, one of these days we will get enough folks together to get a good buy on DuPont VITON hose. It is the end-all, be-all of hoses, BUT........at $3.85 a foot, most think it is way too high.

I haven't done the vacuum hose replacement yet, but when I do, I think I will use VITON.

Anyone up for exploring pricing and availability?

I was talking to a mazda tec at dealership(i know that is kinda scary) I beliee he went to school on them though. Anyway in the 1 hour long conversation, he mentioned nissan vaccum line is the best (that might be sacrelidge to put nissan stuff on a 7 though). He said it is like 6 dollars a foot. He sad after he had replaced all the vaccum lines on some third gens when they would come back in later(as in a year) the vaccum line would still be soft and plyable. He also said you could not get a brand new engine built either. Now someone tell me am I on crack, because I have heard you can get (2)housings and (2)rotors...granted it is like 3 grand for it.... but its new. He even said something like 900 for housings and 600 for rotors. that is where I got my 3 grand price from...but i swear i heard it from somewhere else. he also said he has never done a rebuild..he has done rx7(dealership mecahnic) work for like 14-16 years. He said they have a place they get them from...I am guessing they are Remanufactored engines..or someone else rebuilds them. well my bad for kinda getting off subject...

good quality silicone?? I don't think those two words belong in the same sentence. Get the viton, or stock hoses. Believe it or not each vacuum hose has its own part number. The only reason I would replace all the vacuum hoses if you want to learn the system and how it works. if not just replace a few and inspect the rest. I did all mine becasue I wanted to learn everything, but if I did it again I woudl have left some of the hoses on there. Silicone just sucks in my opinion, it leaks oil, it kinks like a 2$ whore, and under pressure it can expand (if you get the cheap stuff) I got baker precision which wasn't bad. but beware!. Some people swear buy silicone, but I just had a bad experince with it. But, I thought I would throw out the other persepctive.

How many feet of each dimension do you need?

I got Baker's and I must warn you, the 4mm is not a great fit. They're not nearly as "tight" around any of the connections. You'll have to cable tie the hose on pretty hard. I've heard that Hose Techniques makes a pretty good 3.5mm which fits better. Don't get the car specific hose, just get around 30 feet of the 3.5mm stuff and 10 feet of the 6mm stuff.
