Where to get good brakes
It's time to put new brakes on the R1. I want to upgrade to slotted rotors and performance pads. Can everyone post their experiences. Please include the place you got them, and how much they cost.

I have some good news for you. Ebay has stock size Brembo x-drill slotted front rotors for $140 (+$25 s/h). The guy sells them every few days; check it out.
I was skeptical but I received them as advertised...brand new and shiny, in a brembo box, w/brembo literature, and w/brembo stamped on the side. I haven't installed them yet, but they seem like the real deal to me! |

Brakes on the cheap
I bought Powerslots for $95 front, $105 rear, they are actually brembo/bradi rotors with an added silver finish. For pads I bought Hawk HPS for $39.50 a set.
Rotors from www.autosupermart.com Pads from www.nipponpower.com or www.tirerack.com Of course you can always talk to Jason at the RX-7 store since he has a price matching policy.:D |
Remember to bed new pads with old rotors (discs) and then put the new rotors on. You should not change everything at once.

I have a set of BREMBO x-drilled and slotted rotors front and rear for sale.
450 for all four. That comes out to about 112 each. Selling it all together. This is the same set I had on my VR. It bites like a freagin shark! |

Shouldn't be a huge problem, but most people who AutoX or Road Race will recommend bedding in new pads on old discs and breaking in new discs with old pads. I honestly don't know why, it's just what I've been told...

huh? why would you want to do that? both together is better i belive, you are sure that they won't use in the bad way the old ones used to be.

Hawk HP +
The best thing I ever did to my car was just change my pads to Hawk HP+ pads. The stock brakes are really amazing, the slotted rotors help with pads out gassing you shouldn't have this problem with organic pads, on the street. The slotted rotter in my experience accually from 60-0 stopped worse then stock rotors. Cross drilling and slotting is just for looks, unless you really need better coolling, and are running full race pads that out gas. I have no problems with out gassing with my HP + and almost no brake fade running the 11 miles of Deals gap using my ABS in almost every corner. :D
