Where can I find this front license plate bracket?

I hope this isn't old news.....but I ran across this picture on an ebay listing a while back. I've never seen this style of license plate bracket before, but it looks to be an improvement over the OEM bracket on my 93. My current bracket is spot-welded metal strap that holds the plate out from the bumper cover. It's spindly, tends to bend easily, snags clothing and makes it hard to clean behind. I'm assuming it's from a 95-98 model. Anyone know off-hand where to get one or maybe even a part number to have Ray check?

That does look nice!

Looks like the factory one, I had one of those but tossed it...I think the miata's use the same thing...

its the jdm oem one.. its not the steel bracket like the ones we got. its plastic and cut to conform to the bumper.. and it is nice.. :(

A long shot bump. Still hoping someone might be able to come up with a part number on the bracket. I'd bet I'm not the only one here that needs to keep a front license plate and would be interested in this.
Kai, I'm guessing the second 2nd Gen. Miata would be the closest possibility. No?
Mmmm. maybe I'll order one for a test fit.

I used a license plate holder from a 356 porsche. It works really great.

Im going to ramys section to gather interest in that specific bracket....I bet he could find them.

MR2_spaceMONKEY 02-10-09 08:15 AM

Sorry for bumping an old thread. anyone have any success finding this?

Sgtblue 02-10-09 05:09 PM

I haven't....yet.
And I keep forgetting to order up a Miata bracket to see if that would work as KaiFD3S suggested.
Spandy, any response from Ramy?

Just as an update. I received and installed my oem metal bracket from ray@ malloy. ($70 shipped) It attaches underneath in the opening of the stock 93 bumper using preexisting holes/hardware. I was unaware, otherwise I might have made one myself. I'll post up a picture later if desired. I have to take one for court anyway.

a fellow VA resident huh? well it appears that i need one of these as well! keep us informed! id hate to get pulled over for something like this..

MR2_spaceMONKEY 02-17-09 08:33 AM

hooray va :icon_tdow

I lived in nova(pwc) and visit quite often, and never got hassled. Only place I didn't get hassled down here was norfolk. Va beach, chesapeake, suffolk cops all pulled me over at least once. I've been pulled 2x this past month. Just not worth the hassle. I'm happy with how this worked out. Doesn't block the opening as much as it seems. No pro photoshoot pics here. I was cold.

I'm glad you found an answer to being cited for not having a front plate. But I'm missing the novelty of posting pictures of the cheezy OEM front license plate bracket that we're already familiar with. We...well, most of us, already knew that that it didn't block the opening.

My thread was aimed at looking for the formed plastic bracket I pictured above.

MR2_spaceMONKEY 02-17-09 01:33 PM

While it was and still is, the lack of information on it coupled with the fact that people were sourcing miata brackets rather than a factory option confused me. I also found little help when searching here and the exterior forum. I was simply trying to provide info for those unfamilar with the stock bracket like I was for my first 2 years of ownership. Good luck on your search. No more bumps from me.

I dont really get why one would prefer the JDM style mount as it comes in contact with the paint on the front bumper. The US OEM version that he posted seems like a MUCH better option based on the fact that it only contacts the underside of the bumper mount and to me, looks much better. Unless you got a JDM one and mounted some non-scratch surface on the backing and then painted the black plastic to match the bumper paint, I would prefer the US version.

You also wouldn't have to clean behind the one pictured above. If preferred, it probably would be paintable, definitely more stable, wouldn't bend or rust. But to each their own.

Your right. Re-reading my post, that was rude. Appologies.

Have you tried asking Japan2LA if he can source that for you...worth a shot...

Ottoman 02-18-09 02:51 AM

I have a license plate frame sitting on my JDM bumper in my yard..

it's pop riveted to the bumper itself...

I can take pics for you if you like
