When the oil mark drops

When the oil mark drops at which point from L-F is it critical and needs urgent addition or change?

when was the last tiem you changed oil?
why not just change oil?

racer1 08-31-03 08:32 AM

i've changed it 1900km ago and has droped 1/3 till now...i'm gonna change it anyway but shall i move the car or not till i change it? whats the critical point?

I would keep it at the full mark. The FD has too little oil as it is. What is the oil capacity of the Type R?

you mean 1/3 between the Low - full mark? that is not too much. depends on how hot it is getting. the oil level should never drop below the low mark between oil changes. i have heard of being 1 quart low though, but i dont know how common that is. my car does not really ever go below the full mark and it is very hot here. your car is not smoking is it? check the turbos for leaks, they could be burning oil. you would notice this on hard launches, the car will puff smoke. its puff the magic 7. check for pan leaks or seal leaks that may be why. also check for smoke using the automatic warm up system when u first start the car. smoking=bad. small puff at start up= o K.

do you know how many litres it is between the L and F mark?

maxcooper 09-01-03 07:45 AM

I have read that it is 1.8 US Qts between the L anf F marks on the dip stick. And from my experiences filling it up, that seems reasonable to me.

The usual way to handle it is that you check the oil when you fill up the gas tank, and add oil as needed to keep the level up between changes.

Actually the car does not smoke at all. Not even the small puff at start up or when hard reving. Here the temp during the day is 40C and during the night 25-30C I use the car daily driven but hard reving only at nights, and yes the car checked when cold has droped -1/3 from the full mark till low mark at 2000km. Is that bad?

Nope, your car is consuming oil, just like it should. No worries.
