Wheel Offset
 

Has anyone ever had done, and or succeeded with having a wheel worked to effect offset? For example a +28 turned into a +38. Is it possible or practical. Thanks everyone

You're question is very confusing, I'm assuming you mean spacers. A 10mm spacer would make a +28mm into a +38mm offset. Why would you want such high offsets?

I assumed he meant to get a Deep Dish look. That's the way I pictured the question. I have no idea on how to do it, where to do it, etc.... but that's the way I saw the question.

I think it would be pretty interesting to see an Rx7 with 'deep dish' stock rims at the back holding 255-275mm tires and the front to be stockers. May not work well for all applications, but I think it'd look pretty good.

Actually, you've got it backwards. Adding a 10mm spacer to +28 offset wheel for a given wheel width would net a +18 effective offset.

Edit* also, the stock wheels are 16x8 +50

i had 5zigen offer my wheel dealer this option with a set of fno1rc's. they weren't available in hyperblack in 17x9 with a 43 offset yet, so they offered to machine the 35 offset wheels to 38 if i wanted. i passed. i believe they were going to take some material off the mounting surface around the hub, so it is possible, buy what it does to the structural integrity of the wheel is unknown, especially if you were to do this yourself.

what legal-z stated I was hoping a racer or machinist would see the thread and say yes. I see alot of great wheels sets on ebay but the offset is to far off.

There seems to be a bit of confusion on what a " + " offset means. For most applications, it means that the mounting surface is toward the outside of the car from the wheel centerline.

Assuming that, turning a +28 into a +38 means taking 10 mm off the mounting surface.

I have done this type of machining with racing wheels, but it requires that the mounting area is thick and strong enough that this does not make the wheel less strong than it needs to be and too thin for the wheel nuts, etc., to seat properly. In addition, this will reduce clearance for the calipers, and move the tire inward, possibly resulting in interference with suspension components.

Therefore, each application needs to be carefully analyzed on an individual basis.
