What's your normal shutoff temp spike?
 

With engine off, turbo time off, a/c switch off. I hit 200C with the hood closed and 91C with the hood open. I wasn't wearing a watch but it does take several min (3-5 maybe). I'm thinking of wiring my turbo timer to the fans instead of the ignition.

I would think that even if the fans are running, the coolant isnt going to be circulating through the engine (where you need to worry about the heat). Although any kind of cooling is better than nothing.

Having your turbo timer wired to the fans would be more effective if you had an electric water pump turbo timed also, i would think.

Also, isnt the turbo timer wired to the ignition to keep oil/coolant going through the turbo? hence the name "turbo timer?"

What do i know though, my FD doesnt even have an engine in it :)

The turbo timer just keeps the engine on at idle. It does nothing for the heat spike after shutoff. Since leaving the hood open makes about a 10 degree difference, then maybe a vented hood is the solution, but is it the only one. The electric water pump with the turbo timer may be a good alternative.

100C with hood closed, which is something like 212F (I think).

thats the way it is when you shut off your engine

nothing is wrong, mine gets up to 106C sometimes when I shut it off.

that is not a general engine coolant temp spike .... It's the thermal loop to back of wp from the turbos, and return by way of turbo hose to lower wp inlet from rad.

i've hit 112 according to the pfc when shut off...............90+ original miles, still running strong............ :)

Last night in 90F weather I parked my FD and came back from shopping and the temps were 115C.

It dropped down to mid 80's when I started up the engine and hit the freeway.

It is completely rediculous to worry about 100C temps in an FD.

on a normal weather day mine would hit 90-92 max after shut off. I love San Diego!

my car usually hits around 190F when I shut down, then my fans run for 10 minutes. It's usually around 180-185 after the fans shut off.

^ w3rd my gauge will read maxed out @250f, but then drops quickly once the coolant/water is flowing again.

where is your sensor located? 250 degrees is not normal at all unless you dont have enought water in your system and the water is boiling or something. you might wanna try burping your system.

i hit 116c according to my pfc after the turbo timer shuts down..

Both of my FDs' coolant temps would climb to 230+F within about 5-10 minutes of heat soak after shutting the engine down. This is being read from a sensor tapped into the coolant fill neck. Since I've replaced the radiator on my current, the temps haven't gone above 210. I always thought it was completely normal for third gens to have high temps after the engine is turned off.

on a 70-80 sunny day with normal driving

200f with hood closed
185f with hood opened

same temp outside with recent boost prior to shut off

205-210f with hood closed
195-200f hood opened
