Same noise that you hear if you stall out, or if the engine starts than dies, or any other thing that might cause the engine to shut off without using the key. Im probably wrong but I thought I read somewhere it was the fuel pump?

puma 09-08-06 10:20 PM

the fuel pump stops working when the engine is shut down. His makes the noise when the engine is shut off.

Thats probably correct, its just something I thought I read somewhere. My car does the exact same noise if I were to stall the clutch or somehow kill the engine, the noise sounds like its comming from the UIM but its obviously something under it, sorry Im just not sure what it is :)

puma 09-08-06 10:30 PM

that's a weird noise though, that's for sure... scary!

Sounds like your ISC going nuts. Try unplugging the white plug on the back of the UIM, just in front of the throttle body and see if it happens anymore. Your engine may have trouble idling at a reasonable speed with it disconnected, but that could be what's going on. If it is the problem, I am not sure what to do about it. Do you have a PFC? You looked right at the connector I'm talking about at 1:28 in the video.

yeah i've the pfc

'85GSL-SE 09-09-06 10:42 AM

Wow that sounds like a mud dauber's nest in your UIM... lol :D

No but really, I have heard that in my own engine before but it dies after about 2-3 seconds.

jimorrison 09-09-06 12:28 PM

I found where the noise came, I unplug the idle speed control and the noise stop immediatly... however, my car doesn't start any more. What can I do?

TpCpLaYa 09-09-06 02:02 PM

i would def pull the plugs and clean them real good. Then pull the egi fuse and crank it over per unflood procedure. My car sounded like that when it wouldnt start. I cleaned plugs real good...got excess fuel outta there and all was good. Give it a try. If that doesnt work i would check to see if your getting spark. My problem was a lil tiny wire that grounds to the block right next to the spark plugs had broken off.

quite scary but youll get it

mad_7tist 09-10-06 11:37 AM

sounds like the iac
car may be flooded
do not pump fuel injected cars like they have a carb

jimorrison 09-10-06 04:36 PM

yeah the car is probably flooded, I hope so, I'll check it tonight, thanks for the help!!

jimorrison 09-10-06 11:06 PM

Ok somes news... I cleaned the plugs and I cranked it and it doesn't work... Car isn't starting. I'm tired... don't know what to do, how can I verify if there are sparks when i'm starting the engine?

Master_Tao 09-10-06 11:40 PM

My car did this same thing. My problem was my fuel pump had went out. I did alot of research and found that first you should try to unflood the engine. You can do a search to find out how. Next you should check for spark, which you mentioned. To do that I just pull a plug leave it attached to the wire and ly it on the UIM. You can see if it's sparking when some body cranks the engine. Make sure you pull the egi relay though, so you're not spraying gas out the plug hole. If you're getting spark then the problem is probably fuel. I just assumed it was my fuel pump at that point and bought a new one. I wanted a walboro anyway. It solved my problem. I hope this helps you.

I hope this is my problem...my car sounds exactly like the video. This problem just randomely happened working beautifully one moment--then the next won't start. I pulled the plugs and changed them, pulled the egi relay, try to deflood the engine. I hear all the pshhs from the compression when the plugs are out, I can't tell if I have spark because I'm the only one working on my car. My last hope seems to be the fuel pump. I do have to say that a day before the problem happened, I was messing with my fuel pump and fuel level sensor. Anything else I'm missing that could be the cause of the problem?

XxMerlinxX 12-13-06 01:57 PM

If you were messing around with the pump before this happened, I'd say the reasonable cause would be that pump then. See if anybody's got a spare stock pump they can send you and you can try that without having to buy a new pump.
