whats this noise???

hey guys, my car is making this turkey gobble kinda noise at the turbo area when i let off the throttle after ive been boosting around 5 + psi. i dont know what it is. . . anybody have any insight? do i need to go ALL the way out on my BOV? is this compressor surge?

also, take this into consideration. . . my wastegate is vented to the atmospherel. . . could my wastegate be stupid?

thanks,
paul

your bov might be blocked and its making that type of a noise when you let off the gas. i had this happen to mine before because the mechanic had put a block off thing after the bov not before it. this might be it

check the vacuum line to your BOV, if it is silicon it might be collapsing under heat and not letting the BOV function properly. I had this problem a couple weeks ago, and a beefed up vacuum line solved it.

the problem is that i can hear the bov vent and then at the end the chirping occurs. . .

thanks for the input guys. . . your thinking the same as me. . . BOV!!!!! hahahaha

do you still have the stock airpump ?

rotorbrain 02-12-04 08:21 PM

no my car is FAAAAAAAAAAAAR from stock. heres my setup. . . xs to4e, hks racing wastegate, apexi twinchamber bov, yada, yada, yada. . . i guess i wont know what it is till i get it on the dyno and can take a closer look at it all while under a load.

i dont see how my wimpy to4e is surpassing the abilities of the bov that is SUPPLIED in the kit. . . whats up with that???

you have to adjust the BOV for your setup, that noise is called compresser surge...if the BOV spring tension is not adjusted properly, it will not vent the air sufficiently

the compressed air is bouncing off the throttle body butterflies and your compresser wheel and causing that noise

just shortens the life of the turbos and makes a weird noise...hell some people think it "sounds good"

rotorbrain 02-12-04 09:36 PM

well, i sure dont think it sounds good. . . im gonna open the bov up all the way tomorrow. . . let it go completely loose to see if it does it. why cant the rush to get tuned be a nice one, eh?

yeah, i don't know if going all the way will help it, you kinda have to find the sweet spot...this is really easy to do on a dyno :)

rotorbrain 02-13-04 05:45 PM

yeah, im sure it is. . . ill be in birmingham for that dyno session. . . i just wanna get this outta the way before then. . . kinda keeps me from looking like a tard and spending more money.

Too Late :D :rlaugh:
Sorry couldn't resist... we all look like tards at times, even my mechanic does sometimes, and we all blow way too much money on our cars... :D
