What's a good constant power wire to tap in the center console area?
Rigging up a switch to turn on IC and Radiator Fans. I need a wire I can tap into that has a constant current, so don't suggest the ashtray lamp wire :p:
Suggestions? |
Do you have one of those tester lights to test for power? How about a fuse in the drivers foot area?
|
Fuse box in driver's kick panel.
Constant +12V is available on one of the upper terminals. I think it's the left spade terminal. |

careful about what you are splicing into the fans have a decent amp draw when they turn on.

tap to the cigar lighter line out of the fuse box in drivers kick panel.
Constant unused 12V source with 10A fuse. Unless you smoke. |

you should really use a relay. Fans draw a lot of amperage. Set up a relay with the positive from the battery as the relaying power, and then the trigger being the switch in the car. You can wire that to anything since it won't draw much current at all.

If you don't know electrical well I suggest getting somebody to give you a hand. Find a friend that is good at wiring up car stereo stuff. A high end stereo with big amps will use a similar setup to what you should do.

look at the fuse, then trace the wire coming out of the fuse...or trace the wire from cigar lighter to the fuse box.
That is what I did...then tap near cigar lighter or near fuse box. Originally posted by chiminoid Do you know what color the wire is? Also, the cig. lighter is acc. power (off when key in off positon). Put a relay in the engine compartment powered from the battery (inline fuse at the battery +ve). Run a wire to the inside of the car from the relay coil. You will then only need to supply ~100 mA to the coil to turn on the fans, which can draw up to 10+ Amps or so depending on which ones you got.

wait, are you saying you are going to run a switch to turn your fans on in the cab?
like the fan mod? if so you DO NOT use a power/ hot wire. you use a ground!!! |
Doesn't look like he's doing the fan mod since he said "intercooler fan".
|
he said "IC and Radiator fans" i must have assumed the wrong thing.
