So what was your time? Dont worry I've got an auto too, I wont laugh..Did u shift with "hold"? How bout the launch?

GsrSol 02-13-02 09:21 AM

I don't know what the fastest time is but I think most people run anywhere from a 14.2-15.x stock. Not to long ago some guy was running a best of 14.8 with all the other runs in the 15's

yea it would be good to know what your time was so e can judge just how "bad" it was...there was also a thread a whle back where al the auto FD owners threw in some tips about launchin and good setups, try searching for it

rx713bhell 02-14-02 05:29 PM

i ran a 15.3 and i used the hold button...i have a dp and cp, just was kinda dissapointing though...i will be changing my fuel filter this weekend thou...i know it is running lean...but i am not sure how much of a differance this will make??!?!?!

WANKEL POWER 02-14-02 06:16 PM

I had scans of a motor trend where they tested Auto sports cars......the best they got out of the sstock auto fd was....i believe a 14.2

rx713bhell 02-14-02 06:24 PM

what's ur best time?

Brian_93 02-14-02 09:15 PM

My FD was a Auto and I would always run horrible times, even with it heavly modded. The tranny just got not hold the power. So I ended up doing a manual swap, and its the best thing ive ever done to the car so far. By far worth it.:D

rx713bhell 02-14-02 09:18 PM

what did u run with the auto, best time?/

My buddy here in Atlanta has a auto FD that did 11.9 W/ stock turbo's but w/ 120 shots of NOS.

rx713bhell 02-15-02 11:11 PM

nos?, didnt that blow the welds on the intake???, j/k thats impressive, what else does he have done to it??

an_juan 02-16-02 08:24 AM

perhaps I may be of some help.....

my best time was 13.499 @ 107.xx in 90 degrees F & extremmely humid condition (Virginia). I have every conceivable bolt on mods and stock motor. The key is to powerbrake and just put it in D......I got my 60 ft time down to about 2.1....not bad for an auto. I lined up with a mustang cobra with straigt pipes and could not believe I spanked him (he ran low 14).

Note that I was running 15 psi and previously dynoed at 271 rwhp. This is where a huge problem. Apparently, the torque converter on FDs cannot transmit anymore than ~270 hp to the wheels. So even if the motor is cranking out 1000 hp, only 270 will EVER get to the rear wheels, the rest is transferred to heat and will destroy the torque converter and eventually the tranny itself.....which is why I swapped it out for a 5 speed.

Be careful:)

He's pretty much got every bolt on possible. Race ported motor(stock apex seals, XS front mount(15lbs of boost), additional injectors, Nascar fuel pump, straight through pipes, his biggest problem is that he goes through torque convertors like it's spark plugs.

bajaman 02-16-02 01:22 PM

sigh.......once again the question must be asked......WHY?
An automatic equipped FD is still a fast car, but NOT really what you want to take to the dragstrip! Hopefully you didn't buy the car thinking that it was going to be some sort of 'contender'?
With experience and proper shifting techniques you can get decent times, getting the launch down at the strip is difficult at best.
Buy an automatice equipped car for a lot of reasons, mentioned here in the various Forums quite often, but NOT for drag racing!
I mean hell, a stock MANUALLY equipped FD is only so-so for drag racing, in my opinion. Sure they will spank a lot of other stock cars, but....there are a lot of "spankers" out there too, just waiting to hand you your ass! :D

Have your friend call Level 10, they have a torque convertor and tranny upgrade for the FD.

Mr. Belvi 02-16-02 05:57 PM

You would get much better times out of your auto FD if you went to either 4.10 or 4.30 gearing.

XSeLR8nRX7 02-16-02 11:24 PM

i was talking to Dave today at KDR about this situation cuz i also have a 94 Touring automatic. And he mentioned to me about the torque converter and 3500 stall converter to me also. This is the biggest problem leading to tranni failure. Also he said, and i quote "if you get those tranni upgrades from level 10 you will be spanking manuals and will chirp through first second and third, right off the line. I wonder of anyone has done this yet. I might look into this soon. Tihs might be the anwer to the auto guys' problems.

efiniracing 02-17-02 12:44 PM

Hhm, thats very interesting. I can't wait untill I tell him. Where can I get info about level 10? I've never heard of them.

XSeLR8nRX7 02-17-02 12:54 PM

try www.levelten.com

they specialize in auto tranni's. There a bit expensive but their parts and work def makes up you spending all that money

unixpilot 02-17-02 01:56 PM

I'd be careful about Level10. I am also looking for an upgrade to the Rx-7 auto, but I found a lot more negative comments than good ones about Level10. Not to mention their pricetag.... $3300 for there PTS "Bulletproof" Tranny??!?! Good lord, that could buy you a 5spd swap.

I could see maybe getting their upgraded Torque Converter for $500 and having an higher stall speed.

Also, they provide NO warranty, and if breaks you have to crate it up and send it back to them to fix it. Major PITA

Just search on www.supraforums.com and see how many bad stories you get about tranny's going out in less than a year and such.

Here's one of the most informative messages about Level10

From a guy at Sound Performance they do upgraded Supra Auto tranny's

This is Tim from SP. I had two "brand new" Level 10 transmissions completely broken down because I wanted to know what they put in there before I tried to run them. The guy who does the SP trans now did the work for me.

Level 10 puts USED parts in their transmissions. If they do replace the parts, they used non-OEM parts in two trans they sold to me. Over $3000 for used parts? Our trans guy said both trans would have blown inside of a week if I didn't have them taken apart, at my expense.

I had to have both of the Level 10's rebuilt, again at my expense. But, the expense on my behalf is only temporary. As soon as I start up my dyno business I'm going to inititate a class action lawsuit against Level 10.

By the time you can buy a trans from them, they hopefully won't be in business.

moralesrx7 04-24-02 06:44 PM

i ran a 13.8 @95mph w/ intake and straight exhaust @ 12.5 psi i hit the boost cutoff 3 times during the second half wont risk it again intill i get the aem upgrade.
