Leave it as-is and enjoy! That's a nice setup just like that. Maybe a good stock mount IC.
I'm with Dave on tires and bushings, though. Dale |

A big grin on your face after finding a nice open twisty road? |
i have pretty good tires on the car.. potenza SO2's... and theres a rear strut already forgot that...doesn't the PFC w/commander control the boost? what about a mid pipe?
|
The PFC controls boost fine, as long as youre running near stock levels with mild mods. I don't recommend a midpipe - a high flow cat works well enough.
I think the savings account mod is the best bang for the buck. Especially in case something goes bang. What are your goals for this car? Just adding stuff for the sake of adding it is the short road to future problems. Dave |
im not looking for too much power. im happy with the power it has now.. just want to make the car as reliable as possible.. Can someone make a Sticky of monthly, quartly, 6 month and yearly maintenance? just so i know at what miles and stuff to do what services on the car
|
For reliability, then consider:
- Stock mount intercooler - Good tuning - 2nd Gen thermoswitch - HPD events Maintenance: - new radiator hoses and coolant hoses (I figure every 10 years is fine) - new fuel filter (I do every other year, but that's not much mileage - others suggest 15k) - coolant flush annually - engine wiring harness (if you have $800 and you've already pulled the UIM and fuel rail - they seem to last about 100k) - new coolant caps (every ten years) - bleed brakes annually - air filter every 10k - Tires every 5 years or when there is 25% good tread left (I don't believe in using tires to their legal limit) - New battery every 5 years The turbo timer is unnecessary IMO. You've got most all of the reliability mods covered. If you want reliability, then more power mods will complicate things or reduce engine life. Midpipe may require boost control or wastegate porting. Much larger intercoolers are for much higher power. Put the rest of the money in the bank. Save it for better things than unneeded performance mods. Trust me, save that money. Dave |

Do you think this is still neccessary if you have a Power FC? Please explain. Brandon |

my car is currently running 12-13 psi on both turbos.. and i want to lower the boost but i dont ahve the power fc/ commander manuel.. but besides that point..
what intercooler do you guys recommend.. Whats a stock mount intercooler? im clueless.. |
A stock mount means it fits in the same arrangement and space used by the stock intercooler. By making it thicker/better, an aftermarket SMIC does a better job cooling the intake air. You can also lower boost by swapping in a slightly larger boost pill in the wastegate line.
But it won't allow for the same boost levels as a v-mount or front mount intercooler. Vmount and FMICs involve moving things around behind the bumper to compensate for the size. So the mounting plus the intercooler itself will easily run over $1000 My 0.02 is that you can take your time and really learn what these things offer before sinking the $$. Dave |
so the stock mount iC does not mount in the front of the car right?.. i wont have the cool IC look?
