Whats the best way to upgrade stock twin turbos without going single turbo?
 

guys,if any of you know or have done this but whats the best possible way to upgrade your twin turbos without going single turbo?can you uprate them and get better bhp but the without the seals blowing on the rotors twice as fast also???let us hear if anyone knows???????!!!!!!!!!!

It really depends on the goals for your car. The upgraded twins don't really provide a ton more power than what some people have been able to get out of the stock twins. However, what they do offer is more durability at those increased performance levels.

Basically, you have Knightsports and BNR for decent options for upgrading the stock twin turbos. However, if more power is what you are after, you'll be better off just going with a medium sized single turbo and just run it a little lower boost.

BNR Stage 3's.

I hear ye guys but what would a single turbo run ye in the U.S?No one in I reland will go near rotaries and if I was to go single I would have to get the boat to the UK in my FD to get one fitted and I got priced at £5k which would be the same as nearly $10k.Dont get me wrong I would love to go single but when you have the woman screaming for a new pad I have to keep a few bucks!!!!

You essentially need the same things to run twins at higher power levels as you to run a single turbo (i.e. fuel system, programmable ECU, tuning, etc).

If you look at the price of the BNR turbos, it's about $2400 USD. A GT35R kit will run you $2700 USD. Note, that my example here, the performance of the two will probably be about the same, but you wouldn't have the two nuclear reactors generating so much heat with the GT35R.

There are several other single kits around the $2500 - $3500 USD range. If you are not doing the labor (installation) yourself, then yes it will get expensive really fast. But that will be the case in either direction.

Thats cool info!So stage 3 bnr's are the way to go?How long are you runnin a single turbo???Thats some rwhp and rwt you're pullin out!!!I've watched you're dyno vid like 20 times but did you do the single conversion yourself and if so was there much to it???I've a few mods on mine but nothing like some of the mods i've seen on this site!!!!I've gotten into doin a bit on the FD's now but I would be scared to death to do somethin that big and i'm only learning about re-builds now.Theres only 1 guy over here in Ireland who does re-builds (and not even single conversions )and he's teaching me so its a scarce trade here and with he growing number of FD's rising theres money to be made!!!!!!!

It's funny, I have family in Ireland and visited Dublin last April. One of my cousin's husbands owns a red FD, which was kinda cool to see. Maybe next time I come over I'll have some engine jobs lined up :D

The single was installed in January, I'm happy with it, esp at higher boost levels. I'd been running twins for 8 years, it was time for a change. For your application, I'd recommend the BNRs run sequentially, much cheaper and a more straight forward install than a single setup.

My FD is red too!!!Where bouts are your family from???Get yer ass back over to Ireland and i'll give you an engine job on mine!!!and bring the bnr's with ye!single turbos are quite rare over here so instead of forking out all the cash i'd like to do that.Are they slightly bigger turbos or whats their story???
