What's the best Midpipe? Give me your feedback

I am currently running a Ebay special straight through mid pipe. I want to make my car quieter. Should I go with a resonated mid pipe or one with a muffler in the mid pipe? I was thinking of taking my mid pipe and having a resonator put in. Or should I but a pre made mid pipe?

+1 search

I did do a search and there are a few threads about high flow cats vs midpipes. I didnt find one about midpipes and each person review on it. I know im going to get one or make mine into one.

SMB 3.5" resonated

My Borla XR-1 made it much safer to drive, to not get harassed by police. If I had the money I would have bought SMB, I have no personal experience but the impression I get from the forum is their products are great quality and performance.

I've got to wonder whether it makes too much difference from one to the next. A mid-pipe is a piece of bent pipe with flanges on the end. Not much room for variance there. A resonated pipe is just the same with a muffler section welded in. So long as it's a straight-through, low restriction muffler, it should be fine. Just make sure you get stainless.

Pipes with high-flow cats are probably a different story.

I have a custom one with a 4inch resonator on it and 3inch or 3.5inch pipe just pay shipping and you can have it

I agree on the midpipe. But the rotary seems to be harder on material that close to the engine and a cheap resonated pipe (and some cats) may not last long.

rx7store.net has a resonated mp that I like. If you really want to make the car quieter the resonated mp is a start, but the catback will have a greater effect on quieting the car down.

Just shop around for different resonated mp's from the various Rx7 vendors. Plenty out there to pick from, and there wont be much, if any difference other than price. (assuming your picking the correct size tubing)

on the cheap a dynomax bullet race muffler http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-24219/ although its not stainless at 46$ ya cant really beat it. and get it welded in at any exhaust shop unless you already have somewhere to get it welded in.

another thing to consider after adding a resonated midpipe is getting exhaust wrap and wrapping yours through the mid pipe ending at the connection of the catback. from researching this it usually quiets the exhaust more than adding a resonator from what some have said on the forums here. not to mention you get the heat containment benefit from this.

Have you done this?

So just get like header wrap and wrap the mid pipe?

Has anyone wrap a mid pipe that had a resonator and what was the before and after?

proz07 03-05-10 07:36 AM

not just the mid pipe the downpipe as well something like this http://www.banzai-racing.com/20B/20B...w_08-25-09.jpg

i havent done it yet but i have all the pipe and hardware to do so i just need to find the time. im going from a 3" downpipe to 4" magnaflow race muffler mid pipe to 4" flowmaster catback to the new setup of a 3-3-3 with the dynomax as the midpipe and a magnaflow muffler then wrapped. The 4" setup was waaaayy too loud im expecting te 3" to be much more docile.

although my local friend put this setup on minus the wrap years back and said it was very acceptable.

on the sound reduction for the wrap see this thread https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...highlight=wrap
