What you think about those twins?

I'm in need of replacement turbos and thinking about getting those. Does anybody have expierence with this rebuilder? Maybe someone have good set for sale? |
No offense to the company selling them......but if it sounds to good to be true it usually is. I'm thinking of buying a set of BNR Stage III's and Bryan wants @ $2400.00. BNR's are highly spoken of this site and that's what sold me on him/them.....this company selling rebuilds for $495.00 I'm a skeptic.
|
Me too. But $2400 inpractical to spend right now. Thats a LOT of money. From what I see $500 should buy VERY good set of used twins. Now it's just a matter of finding them quick.
:( |
pics are not good enough to see if and how they fixed all the cracks....
|
Well, they probably pay less than half of the $150 retail price of a rebuild kit. So labor included they probably spend $200-$300 or less. Rebuilds are pretty quick if you have the tools and experience. They could still make money off that, but I wouldn't expect the use of high quality cores.

I called the company and spoke to "Sampson." He responded to my grilling (How can you this, How can you that) pretty well. His response was as Alex. said. He says he makes a profit and says the parts to rebuild are cheap. Its just hard for me to believe there is $2100.00 difference in what I'm willing to spend on a set of BNR's and these while both give a year's warranty. Is it worth the gamble....the $2100.00 question for me?
|
Is it common that primary turbo almost always wears out first? And as far as I understand they both the same?
The reason why I ask is: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/coolant-seal-caput-785909/ My secondary turbo is in pretty good shape. I rebuilt front one and had almost new housing installed. Now my primary gone. I think about getting used set and just swap best turbo into mine? I'm not sure IF and HOW my rebuilder will take care of me but he will be back in town on 9/22 and I like to have car running by then. Dealing with my turbo's will be next. |
Anyone of our Cali. friends used these guys?

I hear you. I guess this is difference that you pay for "your warranty as good as a company providing it" :) I'm definitely not paying 2k+ for BNR's. I'd rather get new 99's. I already have one rebuild from very reputable guy in town. Maybe it's accident, but still. Even though I do work myself - I wasted time and money on towing, etc. |
Hey Katit, I read your other thread regarding the smoke pouring from your car. Did you determine it was the turbo that failed and that's why your looking to replace tehm?
|
Yes. Check pictures at the end of thread. I'm in process of pulling them. Secondary turbo is good. Housings is like new. I need just one turbo, posted WTB. Do you have set?
|
aww those weren't the twins I was thinking about :D
Nevertheless they look like a sweet deal, there is a core charge of $75 and also 1 year warranty. I would check on the extent of the warranty before purchasing. The rating of the user is good enough to trust IMO. |

You are not buying a rebuild from BNR; you are buy upgraded turbos. '99 JDM vs BNR their are enough posts on this site to highlight the power adavantages of the BNR's
Right now I just need good set of used ones :) |
turbos
I would go for the recons at that price,if you pay with your credit card and they aint no good you got some back up from your credit card company,in the uk a good used set from a breakers would cost u $500 n you get 30 day waranty,
|
don't get them. Rebuilt stock twins don't last long at all.
Since i purchased my car a long time ago it came with a warranty, I had multiple set of rebuilt twins put in because they all failed after a few thousand miles. Why didn't I get new ones? Becasue they would only pay for rebuilt not new items. They were trying to save a buck but in the end they spent 5x the cost of new |
I got decent secondary turbo and excellent housings. Would it be good idea to buy used set and put secondary in place of primary? I understand secondaries don't wear as much.
|
A couple of points:
BNRs are new turbos (twin T28s). Unless you're getting them from overseas, used 93-95 usdm stock twins are going to be towards the end of their life cycle, not worth installing in my opinion. |
