What would you do......

Ok i wanna get a 3rd gen real bad, but the closest Rotary shop is about 100miles away, and i dont wanna drive that far everytime i need engine work done..the performance shop near me said that they dont work on rx7s, now my question is what would you guys do, because if the rx7 falls through, my backup car is a VR-4 but i realllly want an rx7..

Also i know jack shit about rotary engines so lemme know what u guys think

hah 100 miles? thats a friggen next door neighbor.

Dude I would definately get the RX7 over the VR4.
I do not know what rotary shop you were talking about that is a 100 miles away from Philly, I am assuming KD Rotary.
Either way, KD Rotary is in Allentown and Dave is probably one of the best shops to be a 100 miles away from.
I live in Harrisburg and if I have any problems with my car that I can not fix I am glad to be so close to Dave @ kd rotary.
Here is an performance article from a 1993 Motor Trend Magazine that compares the two.
In my opinion and Motor Trends the RX7 is the better car, not that I am dissing the VR4, but there really is no comparison.
For one thing you will have a much rarer and unique looking ride versus the VR4 and the RX7 will get much more attention and interest.
Check out this link.
Hope this helps!

Well,

1) read everything you can find
2) talk to everyone online and in your area(find a rx-7 club)
3) try it -- most things really aren't that hard and after you start doing things you will learn more and more about tools and mechanical things. You will surprise yourself . . .

And, a workshop manual is real helpful.

Al-

You think that thing is helpful?

Well, everything except for the lovely instructions on how to reinstall the engine... good thing I don't need those...

" Reinstall the motor mounts in the reverse order of removal. "

Duh.

100 miles is nothing -- suck it up and drive it when needed ..... and learn to do all the little stuff on your own.

Graz 06-07-01 12:57 AM

how can i do the stuff on my own when i know jack shit??

If you've already read everything on the internet about it then you shoudl know the RX inside and out. If you think you still know jack shit then you need to use better search engine, because just about everything down to tearing the very uncomplicated Wankel apart is out there on the web. And if you learn quick there are plenty of helpful people only an email or phone call away. Once you get to know the RX and the quirks you will realize it isn't very complicated at all...

Get the rotory and start having some fun... :D
