What would cause coolant lines to blow off?
 

I got my car out of the mechanic yesterday for a whole 5 mins before it blew the METAL coolant line to the turbos for the 3rd time. I have no idea whats going on, they put a copper gasket and everything and it still blows. The car was running strong and perfect temperatures before this happened. I have a Koyo radiator and its 75 degrees so I dont see why it should get so hot idleing. The fans were running too.

Maybe you have some blockage through the water passage in that turbo? Is there bubbling in your coolant while it is idling?

Ive done the chamagne bubble test numberous times and had no problems. The line had a minor crack so it had a tiny tiny leak, so small it wound not even leak unless the system was under pressure. After replacing the line it just keeps blowing off. We flowed the system to and there seems to be no blocking.

I just went through this on mine a couple months back. When I re-popped the engine, I'd foolishly loosened the lower turbo coolant line on the front banjo bolt, then decided not to fool with it, and tightened it, thinking it would be ok. Not. I had a leak there from day one, but it was small, not large like your's seems to be. I DID replace the copper washers on both sides of the banjo bolts, AND the banjo bolts, AND the hard tube. No more leaks. I'm wondering if maybe you have some corrosion on the surface of the turbo housing where the metal tube mounts up, maybe a little rust through or something that allows coolant past. Also, did they replace the Banjo bolts? These might lead to coolant getting past as well if they are old. Miine were all corroded and gross. Anyway, I feel your pain, although I had a bit more as I was pulling and replacing the turbos myself, a bit of a bitch to be sure!

Bubble test really wouldn't do anything here, I think it's the bolts, UNLESS your pressure cap is not releasing pressure, but I would expect other things to fail first. Also, did they use BRAND NEW hoses to connect the turbo lines? Those things really don't seem to like being used more than once, they take a "set" from the heat, if you know what I mean...

Yup brand new metal hose, new copper gaskets good question on the banjo bolt but it looks new from the looks of it. The pressure cap is releasing the pressure, your right I'd expect a rubber line to go before a metal line. Also when I had the turbo's off I checked them for cracks and they had very minor cracks in the usual areas but not as bad as some other ones Ive seen, actually not bad at all. Thanks for the tip!

So which line is bursting? Top or bottom (feed or scavange?)?

yo javi go to a regular car shop like tires plus or tire kingdom etc....and have them pressure test your coolant system...even though these shops might not know much about rotary's they know how to fix cooling systems so its like 20 bucks and just have them pressure test it and they will tell you what the problem is

My mechanic pressure tested it, I just guess he didnt go to the 13 lb rating of the cap. Or possibly with the added heat of the car on. I know what the problem is.
