What temperature will my car run at with this set up?
 

Hey guys,


I am planning on modifying my cooling system/piping... Aluminum Koyo radiator and a small IC (21x6x2.75). Im either going to run them in a slight V configuration or just parallel, depending on what ill be able to do.


Either way i want to make proper ducting to both radiators... and i want to make a custom shroud peice with a 14" electric fan behind the radiators.


I figure i wont really need aftermarket dual oil coolers if i am making a good water cooling set up. However my car does have dual oil coolers stock and they seem to be ducted OK.


The car will be seeing a complete tune up in a few weeks. However I am staying at stock boost, stock fuel and stock ecu obviously...


What do you guys think my coolant/oil temps will be with a setup like this??? Would they be too low?? What thermostat should be used??

Your temps. should be fine. I am running a custom 20x3x8 fmic with a koyo in parallel. I run 15 psi +. My temps. are 88 C. My oil temps. are now 160 F to 200f cruising to hard prolonged boost. If you have stock dual oil coolers that is plenty for cooling. Make sure you use the undertray. G

Ive heard that the Koyo radiator wont really be noticed on the street and its only until the car is tracked that the radiator actually keeps the car cool.

I am just wondering what the 'optimum' temperature is for the stock 13b-rew, from my reserach i would put it around 80-85 celcius. Obviously if this is the case i need to run the proper thermostat and fan set up to work with the temperatures.


Just wondering if anybody has any information for me about stuff like this.

70-75C is not even fully warmed up. Where did you get those numbers?

The best way to control temperatures on an FD is to buy a PFC and Datalogit and set the fans to come on at 85C. I have a completely stock cooling system and rarely see above 85-86C even after a lot of boosting.

The stock cooling system on the FD is perfectly fine for the street. The only real reason to replace the radiator is because the plastic end tanks may eventually fail. Many people now replace it with a stock-sized all metal unit.

So what temp should i be aiming for? I would rather the engine run on the colder side, possibly making the coolant seals last longer:Wconfused .
