At what temp does the double throttle open?
 

Now that I have a Power FC and can accurately monitor air and water temps, I'd like to know at what temp the double throttle opens up so that I can be sure that's it's safe to punch it?

The double throttle is disengaged at 176F. However, that doesn't mean it's safe to romp on it....oil temp is the real indicator of when an engine is warm. Usually if it hits normal water temps for a few minutes, you can consider it warmed up.

It opens relatively low - I hooked my boost gauge into the vacuum line going to the DT once to see when it opened, and it was like 40ish deg. C if I recall. That was some time back, though, and I can't remember if I was running the PFC or stock ECU at that point.

It also opens at a specific air intake temp, not just water temp. Your engine could be fully warmed up but the double throttle will stay closed if the air intake temp is too low. I actually have an air temp gauge on my stock Fd with stock ecu.

There is nothing that documents that in the FSM, the only requirement listed is that the coolant temp be 176F or above. It makes no sense that cold intake temps would close the double throttle. I've also never heard of anyone experiencing this phenomenon. What intake temp does it close at?

Wait, if the engine was off, and I were to remove the compression tube to look at the butterflies, when I open the first set of butterflies to take a look at the secondary set...will the secondary set be closed or at WOT?

Probably because not everyone only uses a PFC to get diagnostic information (i.e. gauges that read in Fahrenheit).

I haven't paid attention to the actual temp. But I do know it was a certain temp when it did open. I'm one of the small few that had a sequential system that actually worked like it was suppose to. Documented or not, not everyone puts a air intake temp gauge on their stock car like I did so I have a point of reference. I've I witnessed a change in performance and can tell when the valves close. The indicator is when I could only get 8psi on the primary turbo (which is max when the double throttle is shut). I knew the valves where closed then. Sure they opened as the engine got warmed up however, I've experienced them closing on me at steady cruising at freeway speeds in really cold weather. When I try to pass someone I would get only 8psi. Now you could be right. Maybe it's just my engine temps are getting really low under these conditions. But I doubte that when I've been on the road for more than a solid hour.
