I think pillow ball mounts replace the stock rubber bushings that mount the upper spring/shock to the car, which will result in a firmer ride. I guess it would be good to have if you auto x or something.

These are what bolt to the tops of the struts and then bolt into the chassis of the car. On Rex that means a plate with a rubber bumpstop and some cushioning with a hole in the middle that the strut rob bolts to and 3 protruding bolts on top to bolt to the chassis.

Typical "performance" pillow ball mounts don't have the rubber cushioning (this ensures the spring does ALL the work) and a low friction bearing in for the strut to mount into.

Not to be confused with the pillow ball bearings in the rear suspension of our cars.

In other words, great for racing, not so great for a daily driver.
