What is PEP
I know touring edition has leather and sunroof, base has cloth and no sunroof. r-1 has twin coolers cloth . what does the popular equip package have im selling my 93 now and eventually maybe a year down the road ill buy another.. but i like the sunroof.. so it will be touring or pep . but i dont know what pep has in it if ya could tell me it would be great
|
They're the same thing, to my knowledge. I thought it was the touring in '93, and then the touring became the PEP in '94 and '95, as the R1 became the R2.

The only difference that I can think of is that the PEPs did not have the Bose stereo system. but it does have
sunroof removable rear cargo cover leather seats fog lights |
PEP...
'94-'95 only Base front spoiler Fog lights Cruise control CD player No Bose system Leather seats Metal sunroof Rear cargo cover No rear wiper No rear spoiler |
no rear wiper ... thats great i dont think once have i ever turned my wiper on my touring its the biggest waster imo
well great thanks for the responses .. and when it comes time it looks like a pep is what will suit me . :p: |
Close.
PEP, same as Touring except: No Bose No fogs No rear wiper Metal sunroof (94 Tourings had glass, 93s had steel). Effectively they are the same cars. Buy the best condition car you can find, don't worry about which model it is. Jeff 93 R1 94 PEP |
Suppose to be
PEG - 94 PEP - 95 with them being the same as a Touring just no Bose, no rear wiper, with painted sunroof and rear wing. Foglights optional. |
According to the information that I've seen, for 1994 there were 1,393 5-speed Touring models imported, 295 more Touring models with automatic transmissions, and 910 5-speed PEP models.
I have one of the last two new 1995 PEPs (or 3rd gen. RX-7s period, for that matter) imported into the United States. Both were equipped with fog lights. |

Fog Cruise Rear Spoiler no front spoiler no rear wiper Black leather metal sunroof cargo cover CD and tape non-bose illuminated key hole passenger side vanity mirror power antenna one oil cooler plastic AST POS Radiator "TWO" Turbochargers lighted glovebox and ashtray 5-speed sorry if I forgot something. |
Here is what I was told from the guy that I bought my 95 PEP from, he bought it new and said they were a little flexable with some of the options. It kinda makes sence cause my 95 has a cd player and rynberg's didnt.
I also believe in 94 it was actually called PEG and in 95 is was called PEP. Why they changed it I have no idea, its prob close to the same thing. Anyway, my 95 PEP has- fog lights cargo cover metal sunroof standard stereo/tape/cd player (ie, no bose) leather seats no spoiler or front lip no bose no rear wiper STEPHEN |
CD Players were optional on base (non Bose) systems, Standard w/ the BOSE system, for all Years (93-95)

The glass sunroof can be added to a 93 Touring either from buying one new or buying a used one.
I did a warranty report on my 94, Mazda lists it as a PEP. As for the fog lights. It seems everyone that has a PEP with factory fog lights has a 95. It seems as if Mazda changed that for 95? Does anyone have a 94 sales brochure and/or a 95 sales brochure? Scan that puppy in and post it/them. I have a 93 brochure, glass sunroofs aren't listed. Jeff |
Among other stupid ass shit (pardon my French) that the dealership did when I bought my car, they also threw away the window sticker, which I specifically asked them to save. They also managed to lose the cover to the battery box somehow, not that I particularly wanted it. And they were supposed to order black carpet and seats for the car as part of the deal (originally tan interior, Montego Blue exterior) but I noticed some interesting figures on my paperwork and they had to refund the money they charged me. But other than that... :)
I have a '95 brochure, but I had to buy it off eBay. The dealership had one brochure, but the fucking salesman (pardon my French) wouldn't fucking give it to me. Even if the car weren't such a fiscal pain in the ass, and even if the only other Mazda I've ever owned hadn't coughed out its head gasket at 10,000 miles (bought new), I wouldn't buy another Mazda just based on the idiocy of their dealers. The only semi-bright star I've found among the turds is Tim in the parts department at University Mazda in Seattle. |
I've got a 94 PEP also. I have read in places that the 94 is supposed to be PEG and the 1995 is PEP, but I managed to get the original key ring from the dealer and it says 1994 PEP clear as day. Who knows. Maybe the dealer didn't know the difference.
By the way, I had bought my car with low miles so I know almost it's entire history since new. That is how I ended up with the key ring. Just thought I would add that incase anyone was wondering. - Cody |
I have the original window sticker from my 1994 PEP/PEG.
I have the original 1994 sales brochure. I have numerous references quoting different things about the package options. My window sticker lists the car as a "RX7 PE P" model, just like that. However, underneath of optional equipment it lists group 1PE, which is dubbed the Popular Equipment Group. Mazda lists only three things included in their 1994 Popular Equipment Group per the sales brochure: "Sliding sunroof with tilt-up ventilation feature, removable rear cargo area cover and leather seating surfaces." The Popular Equipment Group, Touring Package and R-2 Package are the listed Option Packages per this brochure as well. Kyle |
Double post.

No where is the rear spoiler listed as a standard feature on the PEG/PEP. By comparison, the '94 Touring has 7 different features listed compared to the 3 listed for the '94 PEG. Besides the items mentioned previously by others like the Bose, it also lists upgraded sound insulation and removable rear cargo cover as standard features. |
Like Jeff said, I think foglights may have been standard on the 95's cause my 94 PEG doesn't have them along with a few other 94's I've seen.
