What is a oil catch tank used for?
 

Does it replace the oil pan? I cant seem to find much info on a Oil pan regards as finding 1 to buy on most sites but I always see Oil catch tanks.

Is your pan damaged or leaking ? There are several aftermarket oil pans around.

This post kinda scares me lol i think you should take some time reading the faq's and gettin familiar with your car :) and as CantGoStraight asked, why are you looking for a new one? more capacity or is yours damaged?

I live in the city,so I I think a pot hole or one of them nasty speed bumps got it.I noticed my car started to drip some oil but I couldnt realy see what part it was comming from.I took it to get a oil change and the mechanic told me I got a crack/hole in my oil pan.So I been looking around to maby get it fixed or maby try to do it my self.I seen few post's people talking about they take out the whole engine or they mentioned few differernt ways.

talk to Ray Crowe @ Malloy mazda. 1-888-533-3400 i believe. He will give you the best price around for a stock pan. Be prepared to pay a shop for the labor on replacing it. It will probably be a quote around 800 +

I called a local mazda dealer today and he said $520.00 for the oil pan + labor.

He said he would take 5 hours or so to do.

that's a good quote. And the correct time to do the job.

Normaly I think dealer's are higher then other places thats 1 of the reasons I was looking for diff options.

Is it 520 for just the pan or 520 for the oil pan installed. Most dealers around here are around $85 a hour so thats pretty steep if its $85*5+$520 for the pan.

this is an FD not an FC, next time you see an FD look under the car at the engine cradle and you will understand, that whole subframe needs to be dropped at least 4" to access the oil pan, i removed it completely on the one i did because it was getting in our way even when we had it hanging from the suspension. an oil pan on a third gen is a fucked job and nothing i feel like doing again anytime in the near future, i would rather pull the engine out, it is almost easier..

$520 including parts isn't a bad price, assuming they do a quality job. you probably could have it done cheaper but you will have to do some homework on the tech doing the work, i charged $250(labor only) and had the owner of the car help me do it and i still probably should have charged more.

from what I seen people posting on this site it seems to be a long job to do.I dont want one of my first jobs on the car to be to hard on me :p

What I wanna do is just find a good mech/tuner and stick with the same guy so he knows everything that I get done or problems I have.

no no just put a block off plate where the pan is and install a catch can , that will take care of your needs
