What is needed to make a 12 second daily driven Rx7?

Sup everybody. I'm still learning about rotaries and such, but I was wondering what would a 3rd gen rx7 need to run 12's, and be reliable for daily driving. I plan to race it like once a week. It needs to be able to be driven hard, but not blow up. ALL SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME!!!!

a stock engine and turbos could run high 12's although im not sure for how long. They all blow up after a while, it's just a fact of life, "You gotta pay to play!"

It only cost about 2-4k for a brand spanking new engine anyways so i would say its worth it. Even with a new engine, a FD should cost you cheaper then a new civic.

A minor miracle? Lots and lots of cash? Luck?

Take a look-see at my sig; I don't have the car back yet, so I don't have any times, but I've been "told" I should be able to do at least mid 12's, and yes, it is my daily driver.

Reliable is another question all together. Search for reliablity mods, and you'll be on your way to faster times anyway :)

My streetport is running me ~$2500 from BNR, parts, labor and everything else = grand total of ~$6000, plus cost of my car and previous repairs.

Where to start ?
Petit stage 1 ecu,underdrive pulley,k&n air intake,upgraded intercooler,short shifter,act clutch,downpipe,bonez free flow cat,3"cat back exhaust,magnacore wires,b9's all around,upgraded fuel pump,complete rear susp.launch kit,profec b boost controller @13lbs.,4.33 gears and a set of drag radials.Stock eng.,turbos,injectors all bolt ons.
Consistant 12.5s-12.8s with a best of 12.3 if you can get a good launch.
This car is dead reliable and can be driven anywhere.not hard to do as these cars respond well to minor
mods....

the odds are against you

you will hit twelves for sure...but driving it like that is not condusive to reliability.

good luck

fastest daily ddriver, well how technical do you want to get. i could say ari yallon. he is only running 9.5 on street tires. that is kinda fast.

Yeah I'm sure he drives it to work everyday, and uses it for shopping and going to the mall and other things.
I mean something that gets 15-30k miles on it a year and is used everyday, all day.

A really steep, long hill.

TD87, First off, welcome to the board
I'd say getting to 12's, and i mean high 12's like 12.8 12.9, is pretty easy with a good runnning motor, intake, exhaust, dp/mp, Upgraded ECU and slicks.

suprfast 08-14-02 09:45 PM

what, ari doesnt take it shopping. kidding there glass man. yeah, i guess id like to know too but fastest in what. 1/4, road racing, etc... id like to hit 11's streetable but the only thing 11's means to me is how hard i will pull on a viper or vette at the streets of willow, or seca, or buttonwillow.

I did a couple of 12.8's with intake, dp, mp, cb, and ecu on normal street tires and hot weather at 10psi, and my launches could have been alot better too. I think I could have did a 12.4 with a good launch and 11psi.

GRSol what kinda front bumber is that?

I
m getting a street port soon and Im looking to run in the 12 second range on my daily driver soon, although once I get it ported it wont be a daily driver for too long. :D

Aspire, I PM'ed you back, maybe you haven't checked them yet. In the avatar is a C West kit, I believe N1 model. My car has the stock bumper. :(

SPOautos 08-15-02 01:45 AM

Well if your starting with a good healthy rx7 to begin with which I have to assume since I dont personally know your car you dont need much.

Intake, full exhaust, Power with base map running 12-13psi of boost, drag radial on the rear

That is all you'll need to run low 12's.......It worked for me anyway. I ran a 12.3 @ 113 with those same mods
