What kinda probs should i expect....
I'm lookin at a 93 w/ 160k miles on it (93R1) and was wondering what kinda probs I should expect with an FD with that kinda mileage (like what goes around there...)
ill be puttin in a new engine and fixin somethin on the tranny, but other than that, I'm hoping its gonna be pretty reliable? any comments appreciated!? |
new engine+new tranny=car will be running for over 100k miles easy if you take care of it. i would not worry about much unless you turn up boost past stock levels
|
any chassis problems or electrical or somethin like that? (i.e. gauges going, i duno...random shit like that that FDs are prone to do....i have NO idea what goes bad on these)
|
pillowball bushings, motor mounts, maybe some solenoids/check valves if you're stock turbo configuration. Interior parts are usually cruddy and get repainted or replaced too.
|
Suspension parts (bushings, shocks,...), gauge cluster acting up (maybe), clogged radiator, jerky seat rails, ... practically anything that would also wear or be prone to go in any other sports car...
|
overheat and a/c prob.s
|
Unless you know the exact detail of the vehicles maintenance history (as well as the care it had from it's previous owners), there's no telling what to expect.
Don't worry about it. Drive it and enjoy it. As problems come up, fix 'em. |
If its the original radiator, you probably want to replace or upgrade it.
Air separation tank (thing with radiator cap) is it stock plastic/metal/even there? Also, drive it and shift to 5th, see if it shifts smooth or if the 5th gear synchros are shot. Synthetic fluid will help that. |
new radiator...new motor w/ new mounts....koni shocks...shifts good...
anything else i should worry about? |

Everything...it all breaks.
Give it a few years, you will practically have a new car, and you could have afforded to buy a new one with how much money you have spent. You will rack up retarded high credit card bills. You will sit home on the weekends, realize how broke you are, and write on your computer to other people warning them about it. Your friends will laugh at you, But they will envy you. You will hate the car, But you will love it. |
What he said. :noyes:

i bought mine with 167k on the clock for $7k, I now have a total of $12k in the car(new engine, and all mods, and wheels/tires) Ive owned 2 other low mileage FDs, and this one is in just as good of shape as the lower mileage cars(even body and interior wise) I now have a highly reliable FD with all of the mods for less than a lower mileage stock car!
oh, BTW, I now have over 186k on the odometer! |
thanks oakridgerx7 :)
now im feelin better bout my purchase |
