what happened to my cf hood? how to fix
 

i took my car to the car wash yesterday and my hood looked fine, even looked fine after i brought it home, i went out this morning to change the oil and there's a strange white blotchiness all over the hood. doesn't make it look horrid but it's noticeable. Tried wiping it off, and it's nothing on the outside so it must be something on the inside of the hood where the weave is, but what is it? I think it may be calcium or the wash somehow sucked the oils out of the fibers. Has anyone had this problem and how did you fix this. i've had the hood for over a year and this has never happened.

This has never happened to me, so Im just guessing, but are you sure they arent just water spots? Try taking some detailing spray and rubbing fairly hard and see if they come off.

Sorry I can't help either. But I'm VERY interested in knowing exactly what went wrong? Considering the price we pay for these CF hoods I don't want this happening to my hood either.

That looks very strange from the pictures, but I would have to asume it was calcium in the water and it just left spots on the hood.Try waxing a small spot, it should do the trick.I find it very difficult to believe it is something in the fibers of the carbon itself.I have made carbon fober pieces before and have never had that problem before.

I assume that you ran it through an automatic car wash... 3 things. 1) the chemcals they used is still on the clearcoat and it requires claybaring and polishing to re new it. 2) dried water spots (dirty water, not dryingt he car, chemicals sitting) or 3) early clearcoat failure ... lol.. get it detailed.

The cf hood on my S13 did that too after about 2 years of neglect. Rubbing/polishing compound seemed to work at first but then that cloudy shit came back, im thinking its some sort of damage to the clear coat. Next im going to try wet sanding with super fine paper and then some paint polishing compound.

I had a carbon fiber hood on my old car and I got the same hazynes to the clear coat. I tried every kind of wax and compound out there and nothing seemed to work, finally I took the car to a very good painter/body man that I know and he wet sanded it and sprayed it with a fresh coat of clear. When he was done the hood looked better than when it was new. I would only recomend doing this if you know someone who is good at painting.

i would use a cut and polish, but if you find that the same texture is int he inside as well, then id say that the heat may have gotten to it, especially, if you donw have the heat shit under the bonnet

and i don't i just have the fiberglass underlay and the vent. i did try wax on it and it went away for a few minutes and resurfaced afterwards. perhaps i'll set up a detailer to come by and do the whole car this weekend and hope that does the trick, if not then wet sand and clear coat it is. Thanks for the help

lol dont tell the detailer about it, then accuse him for oing it and make him pay for it LOL!!!
