What handles best twin or single?
 

Hey guys, i would like to know which turbo setup is better for handling?

We all know single makes a ton more power and a sequential has power throughout the rev range.

Ive heard the single is the best choice for handling, but why then are many companies producing twin turbo models which are actually more expensive to produce?

you mean which is better for the kind of driving that has a lot of turns?

im guessing single is better while drifting because it produce even power compare to twin turbo one is for lower rpm and the other is on higher rpm..while turning it can create oversteer when the other kicks it...overboost

Whichever one is lighter and has a lower CG should handle better. Usually the single turbo setups are lighter with their tubular manifolds and generally less total cast iron. But seriously, even though I am "into the details", I doubt there is much appreciable difference between the various setups.

It's all about the size of the single and what you would like to do with the car. They will all give you a huge increase in HP, and can be similiar to the twins. IMO

exactly. when you go single turbo it's not like the turbo choice is limited to 400rwhp and up.

there's really no difference for "handling", i.e.: cornering performance of the car. There is a slight weight difference (50 lbs TOPS), but that's negligible.

There is a difference typically in power delivery... generally speaking most singles won't match the quick deliver of a good twin setup.

I drove a 35/40 car on a tight/small autox course and didnt care for it too much, jumped in a customer's seq car and found the car much better suited for the autox. Keep in mind the 35/40 had the 1.0 or 1.06 hotside and was the old t3/t4 setup if I remember correctly.

Some are against sequential twin set up because of the non linear power it produce.. and could be problematic when coming out of a corner and all the sudden your secondary kicks in.. For example the transition from primary to secondary. But those who really know tuning and with good boost controllers, you could minimize the spike that occurs in transition..

Also pending what size single, what type of single, and what type of twins you are comparing to... Some say 99s have slight better spool and smoother curve than non 280 version twins.. And BNR twins will produce as much power as most singles out there in sequential.. But if you go with Large T88 greddy, I'm sure it will be so laggy that you will think its not good for "handling".. I think you meant which is more responsive.

Now i know this is an incredibly stupid thing to say, but i remember watch initial d, 4th stage with the single vs the twin and they were saying something about how the single can easily loose its response once its momentum is broken. hehe.

in all seriousness, from experience with the twins in the mountains, just like phil said if that second turbo comes on and you are expecting it/ready for it you could find you self in a situation. i havent driven a single in the mountains so i cant say. the best thing about the twins is i can go up hill for miles and not go above 4k rpm and still have tons of fun. try that in a single turbo car and see what happens.

I like your thinking, i do find i have the most fun with my car before 4000rpm.
