The 93-95 stock wheels all look the same until you really start investigating. There are at least two types of wheels, shown at http://www.formula3.freeserve.co.uk/dcp_0600.jpg.
The text accompanying the photos I believe is incorrect where it says Mazda changed wheels halfway through the production year. I've seen some thick, some thin on the same car for each year.
Supposedly the thin ones will crack under severe loading, like repeated track days, but I've never seen a cracked one.
And, the thick ones are heavier.
From the examples I've seen, the thin ones have the date codes as the year then 12 boxes, the thick ones don't.

so the 93"s have the boxes?

turbojeff 09-25-02 05:05 PM

The boxes represent the date code. Each month they put a punch in the box, for example March would have 3 boxes punched out. This is a standard industry pratice for injection molded plastics and cast parts. Take a look around underneath some of the plastic interior parts on any type of car you should see some type of date on almost all of them.

Wheels made in 92 are on 93 FDs, wheels made in 93 are on 94 FDs. The earliest wheels are the strong ones, the others are all the weak ones.
