What is Efini?

Yes, I DID do a search, but I got multiple answers.

I read that Efini is/was Mazda's premier line (much the way Acura is Honda's, and Lexus is Toyota's).

Then I read that Efini is what the RX-7 is called in Japan.

Then I read that Efini was a special model RX-7 manufactured up until 1999.

Can anyone tell me for certain what Efini really is? Thanks.

mostly 99 spec rx7's

DaiOni 02-05-06 01:42 AM

it was sub-brand of mazda (yes, kinda like lexus with toyota). Efini had it's own dealerships - and carried certain models (rx7, mpv, 929...). Other sub-brands were autozam and eunos. Efini ended in october 97 - and from then on, all rx7s carried the normal mazda badging.

There is no 'special' efini version of the FD.

I believe I read that RX-7's did not carry the Efini badge after 1999. :Wconfused

Are you certain of your answer? Where did you derive this information? As I said I would like to know for sure, as there are so many varying answers.

Oct 1997: mazda changed it's name to "Mazda rx-7" from "Enfini rx-7"

:bottom: spanky for you too.

This is the answer I hear/read most frequently.

So Efini was indeed a subsidiary of Mazda? i.e. Efini is a company name? Are you certain?

Fantastic!

Thank you all for your help. Rock on!! :celebrate

I am curious however as to why non-rotary vehicles where given the Efini badge, which I assume is a rotor.

I derived that information from mazda japan - I've also read it in several japanese FD publications, magazine and internet.

that answers.com info is not 100% acccurate. IIRC, they pull that info off wikipedia - which isn't the most reliable of sources. It's definitely 97.

the first FD to wear the 'flying m' logo (vs efini) was the rs-r (30th anniversary special) - in october 97.

this is a good online source of info: http://13b.power.ne.jp/main_contents/tec/spec.html - it's written in there also - though you may need a translator (google, or whatever is popular these days) to see it.
