what does this do?
hi all
what does it for? this pipe looks like its been disconnected of something and its blanked off with some silver tape... http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/3...1111111wb6.jpg |
Its the pressure relief pipe for the air pump;it is from the ACV.If you have no air pump it is not a problem.
|
|
so what is it then?
|
thats what it is....however when u go to some aftermarket intakes like you have there is no hookup for the pipe. This is what causes the MOO sound that a lot of ppl have talked about on the forum. A quick fix, i think it was Dale Clarks, is to put a lil rubber cap over it and poke some holes into it so air can flow but the sound is muffled. If yours is completely blocked off than maybe the previous owner disconnected the air pump. Do you know if its still engaging?
|
Blanked off? I guess you mean blocked off. That pipe is part of the split air tube and should have a hose about a foot long that leads to the top nipple on the stock air box. With an aftermarket intake it should go to a nipple on one of the intake pipes.
|
thats the air pump but from the pics it looks like its not hooked up
|
that metal silver filter thing would be better suited i think on the blocked off hose(if your air-pump is still functioning) and I would get one of those mini mini filters to put on the air-pump hookup. I ran like this for years with no problems.
|
I think he was right. Are your air pump hoses not hooked up? That perforated thing that looks like it's covering the end of a tube right above the air pump in the second picture may be a silencer to stop the I-unhooked-my-airpump-pipes moo. Also what's up with the coolant line to nowhere off the filler neck?
[edit] Wow you take 4 minutes before submitting a reply and people just come out of the woodwork! |
ok so i think my airpump is still engaging(i have seen it starting and stopping when pressing acceleration pedal)
dont worry about the filler neck hose-going nowhere, it's an old pic after i boiled the coolant and my hose3s exploded :) ok so basically what i need to do is put a mini cone filter on the end of the pipe where i got this silver thingy right? and the hose that is blocked off needs to be connected to the 2nd intake pipe? and what difference is it gonna make? or should i just get rid of it?(air pump) if i do that what about emissions? i still got catalysator, is it gonna work without the airpump or should i just get rid of it too? |
You cannot legitimately pass any reasonable emissions test without the air pump and the Air Control Valve working properly. If you can get someone to fake the results of an emission test and you have no concience about polluting your atmosphere then take it all off.Watch out for boost spikes if you do.
|
i want it to work...well i think it works and it's just beeen disconnected
just taken anoither picture today and it looks like the pipe coming aout the airpump still goes somewhere but the other one is blocked off... http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/5...0023eeent8.jpg |
For the pipe with the silver duct tape.
Go to your local hardware store and get a rubber cap (usually for a chair or table leg) and drill some small 1/8 holes in it. Then use a hose clamp to secure it. As for the other hose you pointed. Remove that and run a breather filter off the air pump. |
sorry i dont get that last bit:

what do i nned to remove? this thingy thats on the air pump?(2nd pic i posted) sorry i'm such a noob :( Your 2nd pic, theres a tube that comes out on the top of the air pump, you can put a breather filter on that. In your first pic, where the silver duct tape is, get a rubber cap of some sort and drill holes in them, then cap the hose and use a clamp to secure it. Looking at your first pic again, why are the 2 nipples in your UIM blocked off? |
ok ok....
i know what to do but..that will mean my airpump is useless right? coz other people were saying that the other pipe that is blocked off should be connected to the intakes...or is it gonna do the same? the second thing...hmm I'm a complete noob mate, had this car for a month and two weeks so far, still learning about everything and i haven't got a clue what This UIM stands for... could you tell me please? is it something wrong? i just looked at the pic again and im assuming that you ment these twoblanked off little rubber pipes on this big thing that im assuming is called UIM(still dont know what it is) what r they for? what do they do and why would some blanked them off? cheers |

why is my BLow off valve not connected then? whay would someone do that? do i need to connect it back? if so where is teh bov...?:(
|
I'd recommend un-ghetto rigging your car. ie, hoses with bolts stuck into the end are not an ideal solution.

the thing is that i had this car for a month and it wasn't me blanking it off like that? im trying to learn/ find out some stuff so if youi can see something that needs to be fixed/done the other way please tell me how/what i should do...ill really appriaciate any advises.. |
If you're talking about the thing in the upper left of the first picture - that's the actuator for the double throttle (it helps make sure you don't push too hard before the car is fully warmed up, and is commonly deleted). I don't remember where it's typically attached since it was only on my car for like 2 weeks before I nixed it.
The bottom picture - The CRV and BOV were originally plumbed back into the stock box, so the fact that the CRV is plumbed into your aftermarket intake is a-ok. :icon_tup: |
ok so does it mean i have no BOV? i have only CRV? is it bad? fdo i need to get BOV then? i dont know but i can hear the BOV sound whilst changing gears...
edit: oh and why did you get rid of the actuator? should i do it too? |
ok and what about this? its just below the first intake next to CRV anmd looks the same..
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/9535/dsc00041zd4.jpg or this one here, looks similar...its just between UIM and Firewall http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/4264/dsc00046vw3.jpg btw: what is this sensor for? its undearneath intakes http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/5724/dsc00044jc0.jpg cheers |
