What does this do?

Was inspecting my car today and this wire was fairly loose.
I tightened it by moving the screws over a bit.
Now i know there is a problem now because the car idles over 2k and when its in gear i dont need to press gas for it to go =)

THe car feels like it has much more response but i dont want it to idle over 2k

if this is to loose the car did feel sluggish i suppose, should the screws be tighten everynow and then?

Please let me know what this wire is and where i should set the screws to.

That's the throttle cable. Loosen it just enough that the car idles normally.

It's your throttle cable; the other end is connected to the gas pedal. (Do not drive the car if it's not connected properly)
See page F-80 of the FSM for instructions.

Download the Factory Service Manual from the links here:

When you said it was "loose", I 1st thought you meant it wasn't securely connected. Didn't mean to scare you!!! It should be OK.

Just curious. . .how is it that you are sitting on one of the most beautiful (highly modified) engine compartments I've seen and don't know what the throttle cable is? I'd love to see the rest of the car if you can post. . .thanks.

A little bit of slack is normal. Yes you can adjust it while the car is running, just be careful to not get your fingers into anything ouchy.

no, the cable being too tight is like you holding the gas pedal down just a little bit, doesn't let the throttle plate(s) close completely. no big deal, loosen it up until it has just a little bit of 'wiggle' on it.
