What does the charge releif valve do?

How would the car react if this solinoid valve was not connected?

THe charge relief valve is what release air to enable the second turbo to prespool......

spyfish007 09-28-01 11:38 PM

you'll blow up your second turbo after awhile. It vents the pressurized air when the second turbo is prespooling ... as you presurize the air .. the temps go up ... well image having no where to send the pressurized air to and you keep stuffing more air in .. .well up goes the pressure and the temperature. You will cause lots of damage after a while.

can you block both of them and install an after marker bov. on the intercooler? Or do we still have to leave the crv on?

zeroG 04-12-11 12:33 PM

If you have the stock twins still running sequential, then yes you still need it if you don't want to blow your secondary turbo.

If you're running non-sequential or single turbo then you're supposed to block them off so you don't need it.

Ty zeroG. How can u determine which one is crv & abv when same color? I read one is blk for abv & brown for crv, mine are both brown. Are the valves internally same jus function differently on their location on the "Y" pipe? (I know crv is near by the firewall & abv is nearest to the intake) Ty in advance again!

You can't really tell by color. The ABV is sometimes black and sometimes brown. However the CRV will always be brown. You can read it off the label on the valve itself and it will say CRV or ABV. I am pretty sure though, that the labels themselves for the ABV are always purple, and the labels for the CRV are always black.

Here you can read the details about them: http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-...leshooting.htm

The color of the actual part is the same. They have labels on them and that's where the color difference comes into play (if you can't read the label which actually has writing for which is which).

That's the problem labels are faded... Probably jus going to buy a new one jus to make sure.

The CRV is closer to the ypipe, the BPV is closer to the airbox

zeroG 04-12-11 11:26 PM

You can test them with a vacuum pump to determine if it's a CRV or ABV as they open at different points.

yea. Im just going to get a used one by a nearby shop. thanks again for the help...
