what do you think my chances are?
My friend has a stock FD wants to race my Talon next week after i get my boost controller and catback exhaust on my car. I have a 90 Talon AWD 5spd. Do you think i would be able to take him or keep up with him once i get the parts put on my car. If we race it will be from a stop so i will have a little bit of an edge. So what do you guys think?

You have just a catback and boost controller?
I think you're gonna get walked after the first 500 or so feet. You'll prolly get a pretty good jump on him, though. And don't race from a roll. Stock DSM's ran high 14's, right? Stock 7 is in the mid/low 14's?? |
stock 1st gen Talon's run with a good driver about a 4.6-14.9 stock. I know Talon's take very well to boost. From figures people have done with dyno's each pound of boost is around 7-10hp i am pretty sure that is at the flywheel seem way to high to be at the wheels stock boost is set to 11 pounds and you can safely put it up to 15 pounds. so i hope that will be in extra 40hp with the uped boost and the exhaust together. after power train loss i think its like 15-20% for AWD cars so if i hope to add about 25-30 hp to the wheels. Well only one way to find out for sure and i guess i will have to wait till next week to find out.

Your talon will get walked by the top of second... I have a 90 TSi myself, replaced recently by my FD (not stock, but still), and my FD is quicker. My brother has a 97 TSi with full exhaust and intake, and off the line he'll usually pull a car or two while I spin, but by the time I get grip in 2nd it's over.

he'll most likely beat you, but you'll beat em off the line

So what do you guys think? - All threads that ask about an outcome of a race such as "FD vs. Supra" that actually didn't happen are to be placed in that generations specific section if it involves an RX-7, all other "vs." threads that don't involve an RX-7 (and ask about the outcome of a race) should be in the General Automotive section. The kills section is just for kill stories, not for performance questions. We will stop moving threads and just delete them from now on. So if you are wondering why the thread you just posted isn't there anymore, you now know why. Section rules can be found here. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=27933 Thanks |
you'll get him off the line if you're a good driver. just be careful around 4th 5th gear.

Who is the better driver? :argue:
|
it will all come down to the driver skill i think. both cars will perform about the same. you will have him off the line, but you will not keep up in top end i don;t think.
will be close |
you jus get him off the line by like 2 cars, then once he hits 3rd gear hes gonna pass you, he will prolly beat you by a car,
my friend raced a hooked up gsx, he jus has intake,dp,mpecu... i was in the car. the gsx off the line got us by 2 cars, then once he shifted to 3rd, he passed him like whoa, we beat him by like 2 cars, it was great:) geoff |
