what do you think of a 115 000 miles 3rd gen?

Is it worth?
maybe a lot of the components are going to fail?
What's a good price for it?
Anyone has the experience on a 115 000 mile car?
Or go for a lower millage car?

I'm in the process of finding one for myself also, haven't found one yet. I don't care to much about the mileage. I am more concern on how the engine is running and the conditions of the inside and outside. A low mileage car doesn't mean that it's in better shape, it all depends on how the car was being taken care of through the years.....happy searching.

I don't seen any reason why it wouldn't be good to buy keep in mind all the normal costs and things to be ready for with a third gen, and usually make sure it is a clean car, because you can spend alot of $$ trying to fix little stuff that was never taken care of..

115,000 is extremely high mileage for a 3rd gen. If you get it, be prepared to spend several thousand additional for a new engine shortly. I'm sure many will agree with this. I got 111,000 out of mine :)

Also, remember, the 115,000 car might already have a new engine. Try to get service records. GET A COMPRESSION TEST!

I just bought my FD for $9,600 and it has 117,000 on it. However, it is on its second engine. I know because a compression test was done on it 6 months before I bought it...and it was above the factory minimum.

But I hope that the car won't be your daily driver. My car definately needs work. The paint isn't very good, and it had a boost problem that I had to fix. A high mileage car is great for a project car, but not for a daily driver...

If so, you're almost garaunteed that it's going to die within a few thousand miles.

I'm going to make up a statistic and say that approx 98% of all FDs on original motors are dead by 120K miles.

rebuilds are usually between $2K - $3K. If the cost of the car +3K seems reasonable, get it, otherwise, avoid it like the plague. Also take into consideration if you have any good rotary rebuilders/mechanics in your area.

I've seen high mileage cars that were MINT, but yes, usually, if it is on its original engine, it will soon be time to replace it.

Have you even seen the car yet?
How much are they selling it for?

If it IS mint, then I'd say, comparing it to other FDs in the market, that it is worth in the low teens. If it has been abused/neglected, then it may be worth somewhere in the $9000 area.

If is only the motor is ok to spend 2-3,000.00 , but like the transmision begins to get noisy, diferential, electrical items star to break, bushings, etc, etc,

Guys with 115,000mile car, what problems other problems you have encountered or not that bad at all?

Mine is about to turn 115k. But almost nothing is original. For one it has a new motor at 98k. Turbos rebuilt at 89k. Trans rebuilt at 110k with ACT clutch and shifter. Brakes front and back Rotors pad etc. New exhaust SS from turbos back. Its been repainted. Stereo done, most interior plastic replaced, new nose, Stock wheels looked like crap so I had them powdercoated. About the only thing needed is to add some additional mods. My car is Mint. But it cost much more than a few grand to make it like new from when i bought it 2 years ago. You wont see any or very few cars as clean as mine with 115k on the ODO. I wouldnt ever sell it cause I would take a bath in it. No one would own a nicer high milage FD than this. And if you find one in the Low teens Dive on it. Its all about the condition and the miles on the mechanical parts. You name it I have replaced it or am about to replace it.

Almost 20k miles a year on a car that is not "supposed" to be daily driven. I think that is a hell of a lot of miles. It could be well taken care off and be a lot better than an abused one with half as many miles.

It all depends on the maintance it had done and how it was driven.

If the motor is not gone, you'll need to put in a few thou into the suspension. All the bushings, tie rods, links are very expensive, not to mention the struts.

My FD has close to 115k and I have done everything above (plus a full suspension upgrade) with the exception of the repaint. Other than that, my car is getting more like a new car all the time. huh? I must compliment ZoomZoom on the paintjob, that is just awesome! Shinier than my shoes after getting the superdeluxe shine today :) That is also in the cards for me as my paint is near its end in a couple of places - unfortunately with a few coats of Zaino I am the only one to notice this fact... makes it hard to spend the money to do it when it won't make me any faster.

Moral of the story: hi-miles cars are OK as long as you are prepared to spend some bank over time and want to keep it for awhile. Everytime something breaks just replace it with a upgraded version; my car is a shitload faster than when I bought it as a consequence of this approach.
