What to do when vacuum hose r "stuck" to plastic nipples
 
Hey guys, re-doing the vacuum hoses in the FD... came across a few problems to issue when doing the silicon vacuum line install... On some of the vacuum hoses, the rubber is so dried up, it caused the hose to be stuck the the plastic nipples on the solenoid... any ways to safely remove when without taking the nipple off with it? second... there is a puddle of coolant on top of the motor, towards the front rotor housing only... are there any hoses underneath the vacuum system that might be shot?

for the nipples, take a razor blade, like from a box cutter or something, and use that to make a slice on the dried up vaccum line down the nipple. after you make a good slice, gently twist the vaccum line back and forth, don't just go pulling on it or you'll break the nipple off...

and for the coolant, check the coolant hoses going to your throttlebody, they could be cracked, loose, ect...

Yes, razor blade. I shave bits off toward the solenoid and And feel free to use a sharp and a sharp pair of cutters to cut them in the middle so you can work on each end separately. I start about 1/2" away from the end of the hose and shave down until I see the nipple, and repeat on the other side until it's ready to fall off. It's a lot cheaper and faster to go real slow with this process than to grab and twist too early.

Using the vacuum hose diagram you should be able to reassemble it correctly.

This is what I have found best for my. I replaced every hosea and started doing this after breaking one nipple off and have not lost one since. An Xacto knife works best. Starting at the end of the hose, cut a slice back about a half of an inch. Make several thin cuts till it looks like you are through the hose. Then, take a straight screw driver and slide into the slit you just made. Twist the screw driver a half a turn and the hose will pop open. It should pratically fall off then.

i use diagonal cutters instead of a razorblade. . . my fingers dont agree with those things. hahaha. just clip away a little at a time and itll eventually come loose.

I used an exacto knife and just kept peering away at it till I saw nipple ( funny how guys alwasy tend to do that)...Takes some time but if you go slow you can actually get away without breaking anything...take into consideration that the nipple is probably as brittle as the hose you are cutting...Well, never fear...If you break anything, drop me a PM I have the entire rats nest already with new hoses and both the WG Control and Turbo Precontrol solenoids if you need them...Good luck dude!

Oh!!! and one more thing....sorry for turning your post into a shameless plug for advertising but you will want to replace your FPD (Fuel Pulsation DampeNEr)... (I have one new in plastic for $90 Shipped) If you still have the stock one it's prone to leaking. since you have the rats nest out you will want to do this now becasue if you don't you will have to pull it out to replace it later.

Mine were so hard that even an x-acto got me nowhere.

I took a small, fine toothed hobby saw and cut a groove in the same direction as the nipple at the end of the hose. Then I inserted a flathead screwdriver into the groove and twisted. The hose would immediately break into pieces and fall off. I didn't break a single nipple in doing it this way and it was faster than "carving" through the hoses with a knife.

I never did a vac line job! Just go non-seq and get rid of all that headache, thats what I did, hell just go single and make your life alot easier...I did that too

I had good luck using pliers to grab the hose around the nipple and twisting to break it free. The idea is to not apply any loads other than the twist to the nipple. If you grab and yank, you'll break it. If you carefully twist the hose around the nipple, it might break free. If it doesn't, don't force it or you'll end up with a broken nipple. And no one likes a broken nipple.

With all the Internoob hornballs on here, I'll bet they lose control once they get their fingers on one.

also just in general, PB Blaster works well to loosen 'welded' rubber pieces. Like when sliding exhaust hangers on and off of rusted posts.

For larger hoses lift up a bit with a small screwdriver or pick and sray some blaster in there. It'll break it loose.

Also don't twist lines going to the heater core, I've heard it can cause damage.
