What is the deal with this intake. HKS?

I was wondering about this version of the HKS intake for the FD. IS it the racing suction or the power flow. The pics I have of each don't match. This looks like a racing suction with green filters and non polished pipes. What do you guys think? Does this connect to the pipe via coupler or to the stock hoses. WTF, I am super confused what this is.:dunno:

Super Megaflow... The Racing Suction is polished aluminum

It won't work with my set-up, I was just wondering what the deal is. I have a Med SMIC, I suppose those wont fit with it there. Thanx guys.:icon_tup:

It might work, I used it with a Pettit Coolcharge II which should be a little smaller than the ASP/M2 Med:

Not really worth the hassle to wrangle it in there if you have a larger SMIC. If you have a small/medium SMIC, it should fit in there fine.

kerry chandler 04-01-06 12:57 AM

This is the HKS RS kit, should be able to use it with the med smic.HKS
use this kit to go with their V mount i/c kit which is probably the
biggest i/c that sits inside the engine bay.

That is the one that I want. That looks so slick. Damn. Racing suction is so expensive, but damn its pretty.

Bingo. I would recommend a better system. Want to see how they filter? Put a dab of grease behind the filter on the intake pipe and check it out after driving it for a couple hundrend miles.

Wonder how Apexi would or would not fit with the Petit Coolcharge II actually looking to get it to replace stock IC.

shazzam00 04-01-06 06:46 AM

i just brought it up to $200... sorry...

That's what I've heard. You could use the piping and just pick up some K&N filters to replace the HKS filters.

Couple of weeks ago, I met a guy in TN with these pipings and couple of K&N filters. I didn't know at the time who made it, but now I see that its HKS pipings.

I think with small KN filters like ones Pettit uses on their intake kit, it might work with Med SMIC.

I'm planning on getting the HKS RS setup and going K&N filters on it. The piping is GORGEOUS on that intake. Best thing is the primary pipe actually bolts to the turbo and replaces the stock plastic intake elbow - much better flow to the primary turbo.

Attached are some pics of the pipes by themselves.

Actually, they filter just fine when people actually "oil" the filters. My intake pipes were very clean when I pulled them off (for the engine rebuild). A un-oiled foam filter will not filter anything.

Herblenny 04-01-06 08:14 AM

Dale,

Thanks for that info. I didn't know that.

sonix7 04-01-06 08:19 AM

I was just going to say that Kyle, why not oil them more. Dale- Your so right man, those are easily the nicest intake pipes out there. I am wanting the RS more and more. Its like $500. I have a poor mans intake that actually works very well, I just think the quality of the filters is not going to last.  BTW anyone know where to get replacement filters for the HKS, I have seen different colors, but I don't remember where I saw them at?

Mahjik 04-01-06 08:24 AM

Yes. The problem is they don't come pre-oiled. Most people just slap them on the car and start driving because they don't realize foam filters "require" oil to trap particles. I used to get my oil from a motorcycle shop just down the street. It's nasty, sticky stuff. ;)

jimshih 04-01-06 08:35 AM

I am looking for a setup to use with ASP large. It looks like there is enough clearance using the HKS RS??

sonix7 04-01-06 09:45 AM

I found the filter replacements, I had no idea they had so many different colors. Wow!! Now I really want the RS intake.

hus 04-01-06 02:38 PM

Does it matter which K&N filters you use as long as they fit? I have the HKS Filters still on my Super Megaflow system and I never thought about using the K&Ns.

Svelte_7 04-01-06 02:50 PM

I've been running the HKS system for years and haven't experienced any problems. HKS reccomends you change the filter every 3-5k kilometers so I tend to replace them everytime I change my oil. I don't know what the interval is between cleaning/re-oil for the K&N filters but it's probably cheaper than replacing the filters.

kerry chandler 04-02-06 01:21 AM

I had those filter elements for more than 2 years,I take them once evry three months and wash them in soapy water and look how clean it still is.You dont have to replace evry 5k,but if you have spare change why not. :)

FDeez 04-02-06 01:32 AM

I use K&N filters with the RS system. If you notice in Dale's photos, the primary turbo pipe actually bolts directly to the compressor housing. Very cool.

Can you just spray on the red oil that comes with the K&N cleaning kits? The RS looks so much darn better yellow :p:

It shouldn't matter so long as you get one with a high enough flow. I think they rate them by horsepower anyways? I might get a couple since I have no idea how mine have been treated and have the Super Megaflows.

I am sold. I have to get these. Plus the SMF I just bought is not going to work with my MED SMIC, it sits about as far as this v-mount does. I am already selling the almost brand new SMF for what I paid $225.00. Pm me if someone wants it.

Well, you need to "work" the oil through the filter. I would imagine the K&N filter oil would probably work just fine.

TRISPEEDFD3S 04-02-06 04:45 PM

Hey man, you should contact Jason from RX7store on that HKS RS intake kit. He'll give you a great price on them. I just recieved mine, and man are they beautiful. No other intake kit can compare when it comes to looks.
