What causes Limp Mode?

a couple of questions here. I have a JDM 92 FD

1. Can a failing alternator cause enough electrical interruption somewhere to trigger Limp Mode/ Safe Mode?

2. Can anyone tell me what conditions will cause limp mode?

(FYI, I don't have a Check Engine Light to read codes) I know there is a way to make one, but I would still like to have a list if at all possible.

Thank you

Flik

Not sure about others off-hand, but any of the codes related to the Metering Oil Pump (OMP or MOP) will cause limp. Codes 20, 26 and 27 on North American models.

OMP issue, Knock Sensor, and if any of the rats nests solenoids(colorful ones) are unplugged without a 330 ohm 1/2watt resistor plugged into them it will cause the car to go into limp mode. Is the car sequential or has it been converted to non-seq?

I highly doubt a failing alternator can cause it. there's a list in here: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ight=CEL+codes and the second post in here tells you how to get the codes: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...M+Engine+codes I don't know that the list is the same for JDM cars though

the car is factory seq.

The reason I was asking about the alternator thing, is because I was having issues with my alternator and at the same time the car kept going in to limp mode. This got more frequent to the point it goes into limp mode every time I turn it off and start back up. At the same time the alternator started going bad and now it is completely toast as well...

I'm not aware of any way the alternator could put you into limp. Your going to have to take it to a shop and have them pull the codes, or do it youself and go from there.
