what causes fans not to come on
If I switch the connectors at the fans it doesnt change anything. I have a pfc...I didnt mess with anything fan related but I did some work on the car maybe something got loose.
what can I check? fuses relays what and where? ive got about an hour to figure it out. The car was overheating...and my stock gauge was rising along with the commander readings. Maybe its just the 93s that arent linearized or maybe mine was already done. thanks |
its probably your fan thermoswitch crapping out on you. The switch is located behind the coolant filler neck, just above the water pump. NAPA has those for our cars, I think I paid less than $20 for it.

put on the ac. /\ prob is the sensor put on the list 2. thought you weren't driving it?
|
I don't think the PFC uses the thermosensor.
Do you have the commander as well? |
it might be one of the radiator rellays.
|
yeah I have the commander and datalogit
its cool that my stock temp sensor was perfectly accurate maybe I didnt have the thermosensor pushed on all the way. where are the radiator relays?? tampa fd I wasnt gonna drive it but I made it NA now...any way I left it back at home couldnt figure out why the fans didnt turn on. Next time ill bring it for sure its real streetable!! |
The relays are on the passenger side just behind where the stock airbox is located (the 4 relays on the wheel well).
If you have the commander, you should be able to have the fans to come on at whatever temp you like. Check to make sure the fans are working. Pull the A/C relay out, then turn on your A/C turn the A/C fan setting up to see if that triggers the fans to come on at all. |
thanks mahjik I wish I would have known this stuff earlier
now the cars at home for a long time. I could have brought it up |
I second the relay's as a probable cause. Mine did this while sitting in the driveway idling. I came back 15 minutes later and the stock temp gauge was pert' near the top of the spectrum. Needless to say I was rebuilding the engine within 1 year of that due to a bad rear rotor O-ring. Coincidence? Maybe.
Turned out that I had 2 bad relays. They were about $35-40 from the dealer. Frank |
is there a way for me to get the fans to come on any way? Does anyone know if you can switch the fan connectors and still have it work?
My fans were fine and the car just sat for 2 weeks. I did take off the bracket that holds the relays to polish it a few months ago....maybe something came loose or they got damaged when I cleaned the engine bay. |
