What brand of short shifter....?

Can anyone give me some advice on what short shifter kit to use? The only two I've looked at are the BRM and Gotham Racing. The price diff is big enough to make me wonder if the BRM is alot higher quality. My biggest concern is how much each will reduce the throw. I don't wanna get a cheap one just to save $$ if it turns out not to cut the throw by very much. I've never owned a car that had one, so any advice would be much appreciated from you guys that have actually used a short shifter before.

Short shifters

I believe the Gotham short shifter is a knock-off of the B&M shifter. It's been said that they both reduce the throw by about 33%. I have the Gotham shifter and the quality is top notch. The installation is fairly easy and short. It was quite notchy in the beginning but has smoothed out. I have gotten so used to it that I do not remember the difference between the stock and Gotham's " throw". If nothing else, it will pretty much cure the dreaded 2-5 shift. I have missed the 2-3 shift twice now, and have had the short shifter in for about a year now. Both times could have bveen avoided too. You should just go for it and buy the Gotham shifter for it is on sale right now for an incredible $118! Like I said, if nothing else it could very well just save your tranny or 5th gear syncro.

Hmm... Thanks Mahjik. Guess I should have thought of searching threads earlier than 30 seconds AFTER I posted that.

You too overkill. I think I'ma go order the GR right now. Much cheaper than the rest, and the diff between all of them doesn't seem to be enough to make it worth spending twice the money.

I've only had the car for a week, and missed the 2-3 enough times that I want a short shifter NOW! :)

You won't be dissappointed:) If you need any help email me. I posted a tutorial and review on the shifter after I put in it so if you do a search it may still be around. A couple of things to keep in mind when you are ready to install it. First, you should buy some tranny oil ( redline in my case) because when you change out the stock shifter it sits in it's own oil bath. When prying out the stock one, you may spill the oil out and you will need to fill up the reservoir with new stuff. Second, take that plastic bushing on the bottom of your stock shifter and put it on your new one. Be carefull not to brake it off in the process. You may want to have an extra on hand incase you do brake it. I was lucky and did not. Third, have some RTV silicone ready to apply to the new shifter to seal it. Fourth- take it out for a spin and enjoy!

You'll be pleased, it might be my favorite mod. I also went with the gotham racing one, I love it.
