What is the best car cover for FD?
 

Hey guys,
I did a search and couldn't tease out the answer to this question.

I'm having to put my car out of the garage to make room for my wife's new convertible. Hers is brand new and I only have one space so I agreed to it reluctantly :squint:

Anyway, I have a cover but it seems sort of whimpy, and thought I might need an upgrade. Does anyone have a recommendation for the best car cover type/ brand to use for my precious FD? I'm thinking it would have to withstand, occasional cold down to 28 F, rain, occasional snow, the occasional cat trying to use my FD as a scratching post, not to mention the occasional dog trying to use it as a fire hydrant :rlaugh:

I have a cover made from them as does my friend...I'm very happy with their covers. Just select the application you will be using it for and their site tells you what's best for your application.

FYI my cover(exterior type) was around $300.

Noah covers hands down.

Oh and search better. There are like 500 threads about this...

Thanks much nashman69g and the others that responded. I decided to go with nashman69g's recommendation. I liked the idea of a custom cover and am willing to spend the extra dough. It cost $300 which I think is money well spent to get a quality cover for my baby which is being tossed out of the garage. I got the Superweave which is apparently the best quality they make. It's gotta be better than my old $39.99 kmart blue light special :)

:rlaugh: Yeah, I found those 500. All with different titles, none of which mentioned anything about covers. That's how I love spending my time; sifting thru 500 titles about everything from turbos to powerfc looking for the one that recommends good covers. :wallbash: No thanks! Besides, personal interaction is so much more, you know . . . personal :)

I feel you. But again, I suggest you search *better* or shall I say *smarter.* Use more precise search terms. I was able to pull up a few specific threads w/o a problem... Plus I KNOW they're there. I've posted in 'em! :p:

Warning about car covers used outside
 

IMO, any car cover used outside for more than a short time is a recipe for attracting condensation that rises up from the ground and collects inside the cover. This is obviously not good for the vehicle being covered.

The situation is not quite so bad if the vehicle is under a carport over a paved pad where most precipitation, solar heat, and other temperature changes can't exacerbate the condensation.

Some car covers are non-breathing, and those are the worst for condensation. Others claim to breathe and let the condensation get out, without letting rain, etc., get in.

Research these factors before you do this.

I have a NOAH fabric cover from california car cover. It is supposedly breathable, and in my experience the condensation gets the car wet when it rains or snows. So it seems to me that breathability is more important than water resistance.

I've noticed more corrosion taking place in my engine bay. I haven't noticed the car getting musty or anything else though, which is a good thing I guess.

Mine has one pair of grommets the fasten it down in the area of the doors, and elastic gathers at the front and back. Because of the shape of the front end with an R1 lip, the front gather doesnt' stay put in wind, so I would order them to make a second pair of grommets just forward of the front tires. That way it won't flop up in the wind.

"Best car cover for FD"
I think the search engine pulled up everything that had the word "best" in it. :dunno:
Then I searched under "Car covers" and I think it gave me everything with the word "car". :Wconfused :lol2:

FYI, I have had better luck with other searches but for some reason this one just wouldn't deliver the goods.

Too many search terms... "best"... "for"... "FD"... "car"... all very redundant. Kind of like your smilies... :)

So I guess I should have just searched for "covers?" I'll try that next time. No offense taken. Like if I'm searching for roller skating tobacco chewing midgets, I should probably just start with "roller." I've got it. You don't have to :balls: to get my attention :)

They don't last and they tear very easy.

I found some decent ones from empire. This cover was a replacement cover for a custom cover that cost three times as much and started leaking water and collecting dust under the cover in less than a year. My Empire cover is 4 months old, has survived numerous strong thunderstorms and seering Texas sun, and so far is exceeding my expectations. I have 3 cars under cover, soon the other two will be covered by Empire.

I use an oem rx-8 cover, works pretty well

Hmm, stupid request to ask but do you think you can take a picture of your cover while its on the car?

I have always used a cover since i owned my car. I have had a good cover, with my prefered fit but it only lasts one year. Meaning the outside lining chips away (it has that windbreaker type of outside material) and it flakes away and gets all over my car, probably scratching the paint when i take the beaten up cover off and on the car.

Right now i have a better looking cover, fleeced lining inside and some sort of microfiber outside lining but the fit isnt perfect. When i bought it, it said made for 93-95 rx7 but when i throw it on the car, half of the wheels still show. Like its too short.

The other cover i had, the one that flakes away after about a year, had the PERFECT fit. The cover dropped all the way to the ground, all even. Almost like a bell bottom fit lol

Thats what i want.

I bought one from griot's garage that had the padded fleece like material....I think it was called a dust top or something along those lines. Had it for quite some time and would be in great shape still if I didnt have cats..stupid bastards :)

I would but im on a boat in the middle of the gulf of Mexico right now. I wont be back home for another month probably. The cover goes all the way to the ground tho. The mirror pockets of the cover are in the right spot for fd's too and it has some elastic around the bottom that keeps it pretty snug. Also has a clear window for the license plate which I think makes it legal to cover while parked on the street. Being that the rx8 is a bigger car than the 7 there is a little extra room mostly around the rear hatch area so in high winds it would probably flap around a bit, not sure if it would cause any scratches but ive never had any problems. The fabric is nylon I think, no fleece lining.
