What is the best BOV?
Who makes the best Blow-off-valve(BOV)? What are the diferences, and which one has the best sound? Which BOV does its job the best?

i had the hks ssqv bov for my 3rd gen supra. Loved the way it sounded and the way it performed. If they make a kit for the rx7, then i recommend that one.

Loudest = Blitz
Best sound = well it depends some people just like loud BOVs, so that would be blitz. HKS (Racing type) makes a unique sound that takes some getting used to, but it's pretty cool, and I like it now. Functionality and reliability = GReddy Type S Apexi gives you an adjustability feature...nothing great IMHO. This is the knowledge that I have gathered so far with working on turbos. The Blitz on two occasions that I have seen (personally) stayed in the open position...easily fixed but not exactly what you want to happen. The GReddy has never given me or any of the cars I've worked on any problems. I was told certain companies are switching to the Type s's architecture because it works so well. Hope that helps. |
im pretty sure a certain BOV sounds the same on all tubo cars, right?? (for example, a Blitz BOV on a supra sounds the same as if it was on an RX-7). am i right??
does anyone have any sound files or videos of various BOVs blowing off. |
yea they will sound the same. Only difference will be caused by where they are mounted. Sound that the driver hears will sometimes differ in the orientation of it too. But other than that they will keep the same sound between cars.

I hear greddy make the type-s and type-r BOV. I think the "s" is for street or standard and the "r" is for racing. am i right? please post

that's right 1fast7.

does the greddy type r and type s both have the functionality and reliability? Im going single turbo and i think the type r would be for me... is the sound good?

I really cant help you there because I have never worked with a TypeR BOV. If you really want a racing type/level/caliber (whatever u want to call it) try the HKS. It sounds pretty damn good, and I've installed about 3 of them and no problems from their owners. Only reason I can say the Type S is the most reliable is because I've worked with maybe 10 or 12 of those with out people complaining.

Does a BOV in any way help with the performance of a FD or is it more of a reliabilty piece for the turbos? :dunce:

Reliability, so you don't get compressor surge when you stop using boost suddenly.

I gotta a Blitz BOV for sale if anyone's interested.
|
HKS is a pull type BOV and is less prone to leaking under high boost.
|
what about turbo xs or xs engeneering whichever makes it. Are those any good? They are pretty cheap and I'm sure they at least compare to stock bovs. Haven't really heard anything about them...

The 'net wisdom is that an aftermarket BOV offers no benefit over the stock BOV for performance or reliability on the FD, and I am inclined to agree. I went single turbo and thus lost the stock BOV so I got a TiAL BOV. It is very nicely made and I am very pleased with it. I don't think it is among the loudest (a plus, IMHO) but you can certainly hear it. It is high quality and doesn't look like a toy.

I've been looking at going with that one later on but was kinda wondering about how they sound, although it really doesn't matter too much what they sound like if the work great. The construction on those looks very very nice. |
