Waht is the best aftermarket clutch?
 

I ama getting close to replaceing my clutch...any suggestions on what is the best aftermarket replacement?

What kind of mods do you have? Will you be adding more? What do you plan on doing with the car? Track? Daily Driver? What kind of power do you plan on making with the car? :)

I don't plan on any more, but you know how that goes. It's my "play toy" and only goes out on sunny days. I will take it to the "Street Fights" this summer just to see what it's 1/4 mile time will be, but not on a regular basis.

Also, consider how much $$$ your willing to spend. I know of a few clutches that are streetable and can still be used for rotary's making over 400 ft/lbs of torque. Problem with them is the PRICE:)

I want to stay within a reasonable budget, but will splurge if needed...

I don't think there is a "best" clutch because there are so many variables and lets face it they all can wear down but I think some are better than others or have a better reputation than others.

On a slightly modded car with full exhaust, intake, non-seq., m2 ecu, etc: I had a centerforce in the car when I bought it, which was fine but only lasted about 5k under my use. I tried one of those cheapo "10% over stock" clutches because I was on a budget and time restraints to get the car running and that didn't hold up very well at all. Finally got a SPEC Stage 2 and loved it, actually can't say enough good things about it. But ACT has a good reputation too.

I put in an ACT street/strip clutch. It feels pretty close to stock but seems to grip alot better. Price for clutch and pressure plate is just over 300. Not a bad price and I have heard many wonderful things about it. I would avoid the Centerforce. I have heard good things about them reelated to other cars but the FD has a pull-type clutch and I cant say that I have heard anything good about them in that application, I have heard plenty of negative though.

i love my act hd street/strip clutch. very streetable and i got it for a little more than $400.00 shipped on ebay. just remember, if you save a hundred bucks or so on lesser parts and then decide you want more power, you're going to spend alot more money taking the tranny out again and buying a better clutch when the lesser one fails.

I have the act extreme 6 puck in my car and i feel its very streetable. Its a little grabby at first but it starts working wonderfully. Im making over 400 to the wheels

Thanks for all the info...until this, I was leaning towards a centerforce...but now I have another option to look at. It always works better knowing someone else has tried and tested it before. Once again, thanks.:D

ACT!!!

Look into Exedy / Daikin (same company, different brand names) , I had their clutch/flywheel combo on my Subaru and really liked it. They are the OEM supplier of many japanese brands, I'm not sure if they make the factory RX7 clutches or not.

well i have a act stage 2 clutch and i love it, def feels like stock but the grab is awesome

im not making that much power though :(

if you do not plan further mods you would do fine with a stock clutch and disc. no slip and a nice feather on engagement. end of story.
if you plan further mods the easiest setup would be the act heavy duty street/strip pressure plate along w their organic disc... which is the exact same disc as the mazda oem disc BTW. Daikin makes all of mazda's clutches and discs along w GM etc... and is a billion dollar rev co. Daikin has a racing sub Exedy that IMO make the most interesting clutches for the 425+rwhp fd.

I had a Spec stage 3 4 puck with sprung hub and liked it more than the ACT I got now and the price of the spec was better too. It was very streetable, actually I found it easier to drive with the Spec that the factory one I had.

ACT street strip here... I like mine alot. Grabs so much harder than stock

The best? so far from reviews I've read from rx7 owners its got to be OS Giken.

I would agree with Howard. Stock is not a bad choice, the price is right at $220 deliverd to your door by Ray at Malloy Mazda.:)

get a lightweight flywheel while you have the tranny off. unless you drag your car. as for the clutch, i would get the atc street/strip, ive heard its a great clutch that is still driveable on the streets.
