what all would you Polish in the engine bay ? Any Pics ? Twinturboteddy pics ?

Hey guys, I'm looking to get some things polished while my engine is out. I know Twinturboteddy had some pics. of Everything he polished before and after on his old car. Does anyone have a link to those pics. TTT ?? Any pic. of an engine bay with polishing will do. I just want to get some ideas on what all I should have done. Thanks.

;)

You should only polish the aluminum stuff.

Short list of what I have polished.

Upper intake manifold
Throttle body
Rear turbo inlet pipe
Efini y-pipe
Water neck
Alternator

not installed.

Water pump
Water pump housing
Lower intake manifold....

Steel needs to be chromed.

Alt pulley and hardware
Alt adjuster bracket
R1 strut brace ends and hardware.
Throttle body linkage

Polishing has several different quality levels. For the most part you can't see the quality in pics. Removing the parting lines (where mold halves come together) and gates (were molten aluminum is poured into mold) and getting in all the tight spaces separates the good jobs from the OK jobs.

Sounds good. Thanks for the reply. I want to see some engine bays Bling Blinging hehe. TwinturboTeddy.......where are you ?? I did a search on you but most of your good posts had dead links to the pics. cause it's been a while since you posted them. I want to see the pics. where you show the before and after of all your engine parts.

I plan on having my alternator rebuilt and polished in the next few weeks

Some things are better chromed. Polished pieces need to be polished every so often as there is oxidization that occurs. If you chrome it, you do not need to do that. But chrome may affect heat dissipation and is more expensive than polishing.

There's some pics of individual pieces I had polished at:

Hmm, chrome -vs- polished?

I have to clean and polish my chrome wheels all the time and chrome eventualy peels off. Does chrome work better in high heat like the engine bay?

How hard is it to polish the alternator ? Does it need to be taken apart to do so ?

RE: Polishing the alternator

I had to take my alternator off of the car...but I did not have to take it apart to have it polished.

IF you wanted a cheaper alterative you could get the intake manifold powder coated. I think I saw one or two of those before.

fd3boost...i will have to agree with you. after the fmic install, i decided to polish all of my pipes and what not, but am now regretting all the labor that i invested. polishing, in general, does not take too long, but is laborious when it comes to the general upkeep.

i am not having all of my pipes, and small brackets chromed.......glass cleaner, and you're done......

Anyone go jet-hot and have pictures of it? I thought this would be great for intake parts but I dont know how shiney it looks.

Meiogirl 10-27-02 02:41 PM

does polishing make your car go faster?

well i thought it was funny.
