Wet carpet! Waterleak?
 

This is a strange one.
I just have my FD for a few months. Now after the first few days of driving in rain this year (good to be in SoCal) the carpet on the driver side is soaked with water and it starts smelling bad, not good. Passenger side is fine and I could not find any leaks from door, window or sunroof. When I did regular car washes before it was fine so it must be coming from the bottom or...?
I recently installed a turbo gauge and drilled a hole in the firewall but that cant be it either.
Help, where is the water coming from? Hope somebody can help me here.

I had this same problem. You might want to see if your 'A/C condensation tube' thing that runs through the passenger-side firewall came loose. Mine did and I had a wet carpet for a month. If it's this, it's an easy fix at least; just look for a loose black tube where your toes would be if you were sitting in the passenger seat. Good luck--VP

I have the same leak
 

I've got the same leak, its on the driver side and it seems to be coming from the left side fire wall next to the plastic trim that covers the fuses, right in front of the foot rest. I've got several electrical lines and boost hose coming threw the fire wall. And I think the water is coming threw that hole and trickling down. Or it could be the black weather stripping around the windshield. Gonna try and locate the leak when I get a chance.

i got a leak on the passenger side, just found it today. i wonder what it is from.

My Audi Quattro had a damned leak SOMEWHERE that allowed the carpet in the rear passenger area to become wet.....and I never did find it!

On your FD, do like the others have said and check the hose from the a/c evaporator that drains condensation off.

Silicone the hell out of any wire or hose that penetrates your firewall.

Put the car on a lift and go over the bottom seams and joints with a fine tooth comb.....maybe a hole or something got poked in there.

When ever I go through the firewall to isntall a wire, this is why I always go through the steering column boot. I make a small enough hole so that the wire fits through it and so the rubber staystight around the cables.

Really your best bet is to simply grab a garden hose and start shooting water around that area and around the windshield.

The carpet smelled so rotten you would not beleave. That really pissed me off. Gone was the nice smell of leather..
Had the car running for two hours in idle with heater full power on to dry it out.
Finally I had time and ligth to have a closer look at the problem.
I did recently install some gauges and drilled a hole in the fire wall at the exact same spot as in Robinettes picture.

Exactly at that hight runs on the other side of the wall
the water drain for the windshield under this black plastic at the bottom of the windshield.
I was unlucky with the spot I picked. There is a seam where the water drain and firewall meet and at this exact location I drilled the hole causing all the water running down the drain run inside the car through the drilled hole.
So be carefull where you go through the firewall. I suggest to go lower under the lip which sticks out about an inch (see pic). Everything drilled above that lip goes through the water drain.
I sealed it with plenty of silicon and that should be it, hopefully.
If not I will be back here.

So.... under the passenger floormat is soaked. But it feels kind of oily. I dont think it could be from the AC because I dont have one.... and I dont know how any sort of oil could be there when my car doesnt leak... Suggestions?

heater core. this is why my fc is now stripped.

I'm not sure why you had to drill a hole on firewall to begin with.
There's a hole plugged with grommet right behind fuse box on driver side and it's big enough to fit all kinds of stuff.
There is a fender liner which only thing that covers the holes, but I doubt any water can get in through there.
