Were can I get exhaust manifold gaskets cheap?
This past weekend I cleaned my garage out and started to work on my car again. The problem I ran into is I thought I had bought a new set of exhaust manifold gaskets. When cleaning the garage out I threw away my old set of gasket. On sunday I looked around for my new exh gaskets and could not find them.
Today I called my local dealer to order a new set. After hearing that each gasket was $145. I quickly remembered that I was going to use my old set. This is when it hit me. "they are in the trash truck!" So needless to say I need a set for a cheap price. Were can I find some hat are not going to put a big whole in my pocket? |

Remflex gaskets
IIRC, this company had FD manifold gaskets. Their gaskets, IMO, are very good for high temperatures.

heres the link http://catalog.remflex.com/product_p/pt58-001.htm also can anyone varify that this garrett gasket would fit the T4housing/ http://catalog.remflex.com/product_p/rf18-003.htm or this http://catalog.remflex.com/product_p/rf18-006.htm not sure which one but i need it to fit my Garrett GT42 T4 and since the 2nd one does not have pic im not sure. |
Pineapple sells precut gaskets made of a Remflex-like graphite material. I'm using one between my turbos and downpipe with good success so far. They are thick and cushy and seal up really well - it's the strength that is less than OEM.
However, Rob at Pineapple doesn't guarantee these gaskets for cars with stockish exhaust systems (high backpressure). He says he's only been able to test and prove them on cars with free-flowing exhausts. I figured it's worth the gamble with my time (I do my own labor) to see if it might work. If you want a guaranteed good seal buy new OEMs. Used OEMs work but they're already crushed down and might not seal as well as new one.s Dave |
dgeesaman,
how much did it cost you? |
nothing...just noticed it was manifol not the gasket between downpipe and center section..

I made my own gaskets which are a graphite material reinforced with a stainless steel mesh. Ive had them on the car for 2 years with no problem. I purchased a one square foot sheet of this product for about $30 from McMaster/Carr. You can make at least six gaskets. The material has to be handled with care while installing but once its in, it works. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

-chuck I also looked at the gasket that was mentioned early in a post. Those gaskets were cheap in price, just would like to know if anyone has used them. |

[QUOTE=def3;8442633]Do you have pics of this and what you did? This sounds like a way to go. QUOTE]
I dont have any pics. As with making any gasket, you start by tracing an old gasket or tracing the outline of the component you are gasketing. Cut the outline shape of the gasket and for bolt holes I have tubing pieces of various sizes on which I have sharpened one end. I use these as punches to cut round holes. -chuck |
Just got new factory gaskets from fdeeznutz. Spent a little more for factory, but I know they will not give me any problems.
Thanks for looking out fdeeznutz. |
