weird problem...

i brought my 93 rx7 in to get painted...while it was they let it sit for about 2 weeks without running it while leaving an interior light on....after jump starting the car it now hesitates and backfires and totally cuts off when you quickly press on the gas at any rpm...does anyone have a solution for this?

It could be blown boost pipes. I blew the top of my y-pipe out of the bottom piece just driving normally. It will still drive and run if there isn't significant dislocation of the pipes. Check through your engine bay and make sure everything is connected. It sounds a little odd for you car to come up with a significant problem like this after just sitting for 2 weeks. A dead battery shouldn't do that to you unless you have a different kind of ecu and something went bonkers and it reset to incompatible settings when the battery died. Did you by chance check the miles before and after the car went into the shop? Sometimes places will try to take the customers' cars out for little joy rides and then not know what to do when they blow the boost pipes off and just pretend nothing happened....its a little obvious. If they had to remove the engine for a full service paint job- including the firewall and engine bay, then they may not have put things back in the right place.

Mine does that if it sits for weeks. Replace the plugs and run it hard. It should clean up.

My suspicion is that they took it out, beat on it and broke it. I hope I'm wrong, but the lure of the 3d Gen can be too much for a man to handle.

Maybe when you jumped it a fuse fried?

hehe thanks for all the suggestions guys....it was really weird how i fixed the problem....i just reseted the ECU (remove negative from the battery, press and hold the brake pedal for 30 seconds) and now it runs how it used too. I guess while it was sitting in the shop they removed all kinds of stuff so i guess they tried to start the car once b4 tightening all the tubes and vacume lines....so the computer wasnt allowing any boost into the engine without cutting it off....these few last past days really scared me...went from thinking i had a serious problem...to just simply reseting the ECU..thanx again for your suggestions though.

Glad you solved your problem, your FD looks great, im not liking the Prelude that much but its all good.

I think Kevin had sort of a similar problem when he started his car up without one of the fuel relays in. It was bogging like crazy, so he reset the ECU and it worked fine. Glad that that was the problem and not one of the worse scenarios.
